Check Medication Allergy Interactions

You can check for interactions between a patient allergy and all of the active medications prescribed to the patient. Open the Medication Allergies module. Select an active medication allergy. Select Interactions. NextGen® Enterprise EHR checks the selected allergy against the list of all active medications. If there is an interaction, the Interaction Check DUR window opens. Interaction Check DUR Note: The display of allergy interaction is based on the display levels set for the system, a specific user, or both. Highlight the listed medication to view the summary of the existing conflict. NextGen® Enterprise lists a summary of effect and level of risk. Select OK to close the Interaction Check window. Acknowledge Allergy - Drug Interactions

The DUR checks the selected allergy against the list of all active medications. If any interactions are found, they appear on the Interaction Check DUR window. Note: User-defined allergies and medications are not checked for interactions. The display of allergy interactions is based on the display levels set for the system and/or a specific user. If the Show DUR across enterprise option is enabled, NextGen® Enterprise EHR checks for possible interactions with the patient's medications across all practices. CAUTION: You must review and acknowledge each interaction alert. If you select the Cancel button, your action is audited, and you must enter the reason for cancellation. Take the necessary steps to avoid an adverse reaction for the patient. Repeat the following steps for each interaction alert. Select the interaction alert. Resolve Medication Contraindications or Drug Interactions

If a medication item that you selected for import has contraindications or interactions, the Drug Interaction window appears. Drug Interaction Window Either confirm the contraindication/drug interaction message or choose to send an alert containing drug interaction information to another provider in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Note: The application does not perform a drug interaction check for allergies, problems, immunizations or diagnosis codes. You can manually check for interactions in the pertinent NextGen® Enterprise EHR module after all reconciliation tasks are completed. To support the sending of alerts to providers, an NextGen® Enterprise EHR Workflow IREM Import agent must have previously been created and configured. Medication Interactions

A new medication prescribed to a patient or an existing medication being renewed can have a negative interaction with either an allergy or another medication previously prescribed. The medication can create a disease contraindication or be a duplicate of an already prescribed medication. The medication interaction process checks for all possible instances and displays a Drug Interaction window that lists all interactions, contraindications and duplications. The Drug Interaction window display of drug and allergy/drug interactions, disease contraindication, and geriatric and pediatric precautions is based on the display levels set for the system and a specific user. The medication interaction process does not perform checks on user-defined medications and allergies. Open the Medication Review Template

You can access the Medication Review template to review the medication. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. On the Intake template, expand the Medications panel. To open the Medication Review template, select Reconcile. Open the Medication Allergies Module

You can open the Medication Allergies module and acknowledge drug interactions. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR, and select a patient from the Patient Lookup window. Select or create an encounter from the Encounter History tab. To open the Medication Allergies module, select Allergies from the Quick Buttons panel.
