Permissions for Adding NDC IDs to the NDC Library
If a user adds an NDC ID while administering an Immunizations Order in the Immunization module, the system uses the NDC ID for billing purposes. If the practice’s NDC Library does not already contain the identified NDC ID, and the user has rights to add NDC IDs to the NDC Library in File Maintenances, the system also adds the new NDC ID in the NDC Library. To prevent the system from updating File Maintenance when certain users add NDC IDs in Immunizations, the practice can restrict the update rights for those user groups in System Administrator. Verifying NDC Details When Setting up Vaccines
A vaccine’s NDC ID and corresponding NDC information is essential for accurate billing. Therefore, to ensure a comprehensive Immunizations billing cycle, users can view the NDC details included in the NDC Library during vaccine set up or when administering Immunizations. To view the NDC details, users can access the NDC Lookup. On the Vaccine Inventory tab, you can access the NDC Lookup to display a vaccine’s NDC ID and corresponding details. If necessary, you can override the NDC ID in the NDC ID field and select another NDC ID from the NDC Lookup. If an NDC ID is not set up in your NDC Library or if you do not have a default NDC Library, a caution indicator displays next to the field. When administering Immunizations in the Immunizations module on the Vaccine Details tab, you also have the option to access the NDC Lookup to verify or override the NDC ID. Select the Default NDC Library
You can select a default NDC Library in the Libraries Practice Preference to enable the NDC feature for use in your practice. Access File Maintenance then in the System category, select Practices. On the Modify Practice Information window, double-click your practice. Select Preferences and select Libraries from the Practice Preferences list. NDC Library in File Maintenance
The NDC (National Drug Code) library enables you to create an NDC drug product list to help you manage billing for drugs that are given in the clinic. In addition, the library enables you to define the relationships between NDC and CPT4 codes. NDC is a universal product identifier for human drugs. Each drug product listed is assigned a unique 11-digit, 3-segment number. This number, known as the NDC identifies the labeler/vendor, product, and trade package size.
