Address Content Standards

Address content is standardized and validated according to U.S. Postal Service CASS standards, which are documented in USPS Publication 28 USPS Postal Addressing Standards (http://pe.usps.com/cpim/ftp/pubs/pub28/pub28.pdf) and CASS system documentation. Examples of standardization applied include steps to: Correct the city and state if they are discernible Correct the ZIP code if needed, based on other address content Add the +4 extension to five-digit ZIP codes Correct the street name if it is misspelled in simple ways Correct the street type if it is incorrect Validate the house and/or building number Verify the suite, floor, unit, and so on, if it is needed for an address. Note: Some addresses require the suite number. Phone and Fax Number Validation Information

The following rules are used to validate phone and fax numbers: Must be 10 digits or longer Cannot have more than eight sequential digits Cannot have same digit code and exchange code Cannot contain the string 5551212 Cannot start with a zero or 1 in the area code Cannot contain a 11 in the second and third digits of the area code, for example, 911 Cannot contain seven or more repeated digits Must contain x in the 11th position, if number is longer than 10 digits Must not contain hyphens or special characters Parent topic: Address, Phone, and Fax Validation Information

Setup Area Code Rules

In the Send Fax window, select the Use area code rules check box (default). Select Edit to open the Area Code Rules window. The window lists any existing area code rules. To add an area code rule: Enter the Area code. Do one of the following: Select the Dial check box, and enter the dialing rule. Select the Include the area code check box to dial the area code and number only. Select Add New to add the rule. To delete an area code rule, select the rule in the Area Code Rules section, and select Delete. To modify an area code rule: Select the rule you want to modify in the Area Code Rules section.
