Encounters in NextGen® Enterprise EHR

An encounter is an interaction with a patient on a specific date at a specific time. An encounter can be a visit, a phone call, a virtual visit, a referral, a test result, or an interaction. A patient can have more than one encounter per day. Patient encounters are displayed on the Encounter History tab. You can expand or collapse the Encounter History tab using the button above the Quick Buttons panel. Each row in the Encounter History tab represents one encounter. Encounters are identified by date and time, provider, and location. The Encounter History tab displays basic information of an encounter like the rendering provider, location, appointment type/reason for visit, templates and documents related to the appointment. Search Patient Documents

You can search with a single term or multiple terms within all or specific documents generated on a patient chart in the Search Documents window. You can search for documents in all patient encounters, a specific encounter date, or an encounter date range. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR, and select a patient from the Patient Lookup window. Select the Encounter History or Categories tab. Select .The Search Documents window opens. Enter single or multiple keywords and phrases related to your desired document in the search box. Tip: For example, you can search by headache, cluster headache, strep, or streptococcus. Note: You can limit your search criteria by selecting the search parameters that include specific documents and encounter range in the Hide/Show Filters section. Select Search. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR, and select a patient from the Patient Lookup window. Select the Encounter History or Categories tab. Select .The Search Documents window opens. Patient Documents

Patient documents in NextGen® Enterprise EHR can be a medical or lab report, a referral form, a professional letter, or any other custom-designed form. You can generate new patient documents from previously created user-defined format documents in the Document Builder. When a patient document is generated, macros in format documents insert data from selected template fields. A patient document can be created locally or remotely on a remote workstation. The patient documents are attached to the applicable encounter in the patient's chart. The patient's chart may also contain documents created outside Document Builder. Third-party documents are imported through the NextGen® Interface Engine Document Import Agent. NextGen® Health Information Exchange (HIE) and Continuity-of-Care (CCD) documents are attached to the NextGen® HIE Documents Category of the Categories tab. Patient Document Generation

You can generate patient documents in NextGen® Enterprise EHR on the workstation you are logged on to or offline on a remote workstation. Before generating a particular document, make sure that you have selected a patient. Also you can check that all the relevant data is entered into the patient medical record. You can select options to save or print a patient document or send it to a patient account on NextGen® PxP Portal website when it is generated. You can create documents in two other ways: A template may be configured with a Launch Document trigger that you can execute to generate a document. Use NextGen® Enterprise EHR Quick View feature to generate a document in real time as you work on a patient encounter. You can then save and attach the document to the patient chart. Search for Images and Documents

When you search for documents and images inNextGen® Document Management,you can search among the categories, documents types, and fields you previously assigned to each document and image. The search criteria are not case sensitive. Open NextGen® Document Management. On the toolbar, select Search to open the Image Lookup window. To include images that are not filed to a patient or person, select the Search Non-Person Images checkbox. Search for a patient image by using a single field or a combination of multiple fields. You must enter at least two letters to perform a search. You can use wildcard characters (*), but do not use a wildcard character as the first character of your search criteria. Note: For accurate search results, you can enter more patient details in the search criteria. The Matching Records grid displays the list of patients who are associated with images that match your search results.
