Growth Chart Generation from NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine

NextGen® Enterprise EHR enables you to record a pediatric patient's body measurements and graph growth charts from them using NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine pediatric templates. The growth chart uses template data from all of the patient's encounters. You can generate a selected type of growth chart from the Record Vital Signs template or a set of up to four growth charts at a time from the Pediatric Vital Signs template. The growth chart graphs are based on the type and age of the patient and the measurements provided. You can also generate growth charts from a NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine template by using File menu commands in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. You can graph BMI, height, weight, head circumference, and weight versus length. Down Syndrome Growth Charts

Note: If the patient is premature and has Down syndrome, premature growth charts are displayed. Specialized height, weight, head circumference, weight versus length, and BMI growth charts are available for Down syndrome patients from 0-36 months and 2-20 years of age. The Down syndrome growth charts use CDC 2015 data. You can show a citation for this data source when you generate the growth chart. To generate a Down syndrome growth chart, you must select a Down Syndrome indicator on the NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine or custom NextGen® Enterprise EHR template you are using, and set up the corresponding preference. Turner Syndrome Growth Charts

For female patients with Turner syndrome, specialized height growth charts are available starting at one year of age. The plot 1-20 years chart option is selected by default. If a Turner syndrome patient is under one year, use the 0-24 month standard height growth charts to graph any height data logged during the patient's first year. You must select a Turner Syndrome indicator on your growth chart template, and set up the corresponding preference to generate this type of growth chart. Turner syndrome growth charts use data from the Turner Syndrome Foundation to graph the following percentiles: 3, 10, 25, 50, 75, 90, and 97. Standard Growth Charts

Standard growth charts measure body mass index (BMI), height, weight, head circumference, and weight versus length. By default, the growth charts use chronological age and are not corrected for genetic syndromes or premature birth. An option is available on some growth charts to adjust the plot for gestational age. Standard growth charts use data from the World Health Organization (WHO) or Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The table below lists the standard growth chart types by age group and provides the data source and percentiles graphed. Premature Growth Charts

Premature growth charts are available for age versus height, weight, body mass index (BMI), and head circumference, and weight versus length. They are automatically generated for a patient with a gestational age of less than 37 weeks at birth and a current gestational age of up to 50 weeks. An age adjustment plot can be used when the patient is older than 50 weeks. Premature growth charts use data from the 2013 Fenton Growth Chart study to graph the percentiles: 5, 10, 25, 50, 75, 90, and 95. The growth charts display Fenton 2013 Preterm Growth Chart in the title. For example, the title for a head circumference growth chart for a premature girl is Age vs. Head Circumference (Fenton 2013 Preterm Growth Chart, Girls). For a premature boy, the title for a height growth chart is Age vs. Height (Fenton 2013 Preterm Growth Chart, Boys) and for a weight growth chart, it is Age vs. Weight (Fenton 2013 Preterm Growth Chart, Boys). Generating Pediatric Growth Charts

NextGen® Enterprise EHR enables you to generate age-based growth charts. Percentiles on a growth chart are used to compare a pediatric patient to other children of the same gender and age. The percentiles are shown as lines drawn in curved patterns. In addition to standard growth charts, specialized growth charts are available for Turner syndrome, Down syndrome, and premature patients. You can generate growth charts from NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine or NextGen® Enterprise EHR custom templates. You can also select a growth chart type from the NextGen® Enterprise EHR File menu for a specific NextGen® Enterprise EHR custom or NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine template. After you generate a growth chart, you can adjust the plot, customize the display, and save and print the graph. To begin using growth charts, you must have a patient open in NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
