The generic and the state-specific RxPrint and RxFax reports include Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) mandated information. These regulations increase the safety and effectiveness of electronic transmissions of controlled substance prescriptions. When you print or fax a controlled substance prescription, the following report information opens based on the below conditions: If you refax or reprint an electronic prescription for a controlled substance, a COPY NOT FOR DISPENSING watermark appears on the report. If the electronic transmission for the prescription fails, the following occurs: A message appears stating that the transmission failed. RxPrint and RxFax Reports

The RxPrint and RxFax reports include new prescription reporting features to help you process your reports more efficiently and securely based on your pharmacy's state requirements and other regulations. The RxPrint and RxFax reports: Meet the minimum prescription reporting requirement set by state pharmacies and can be used by any state that does not have more stringent requirements. Include unique prescription reporting requirements based on the regulations of certain states. All the RxPrint and RxFax reports appear in the distributed reports folder named RxPrint and RxFax folder: RxPrint and RxFax folder All the old generic reports and state specific reports have been moved to a new folder named Deprecated State Specific RxPrint and RxFax. NextGen Healthcare will stop distributing the state specific reports in the future as user should use the new reports and the deprecated reports will no longer be updated or supported. ePCS Restrictions on Printing and Faxing of Medications

If you print or fax a controlled substance prescription, you cannot eRx that prescription. If you ePrescribe a controlled substance, you can print or fax the prescription. However, the printed or faxed report must indicate that the printed or faxed copy is not for dispensing. If you ePrescribe a controlled substance and the transmission fails, you can print or fax the prescription. However, the printed or faxed report must display a message stating the prescription was originally sent electronically to a pharmacy. The pharmacy’s name must be shown along with the date and time of the eRx message. It must also show that the eRx message failed. You must be aware of local and state laws regulating faxing of controlled medications. These regulations may be stricter than Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Federal Regulations. Printing Patient Prescriptions

You can print a prescription to hand over to the patient. The following apply: If you print or fax a controlled substance prescription, you can no longer ePrescribe the prescription. If you ePrescribe a controlled substance, you can print or fax the prescription. The printed or faxed report must indicate that the printed or faxed copy is "not for dispensing." If you ePrescribe a controlled substance and the transmission fails, you can print or fax the prescription. The printed or faxed report must display a message that states the prescription was originally sent electronically to a pharmacy. The pharmacy’s name, and the date and time of the eRx message must display. The message must also show that the eRx message failed. If the Verify PIN Universal Preference is set to True, you are required to provide Medication Verification when printing a patient prescription. ePCS Reports

To transmit electronic prescriptions for controlled substances (ePCS) according to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) mandates, providers and system administrators can run ePCS reports to view and monitor the activities related to these transmissions for security and auditing purposes. The ePCS reports are described below: ePCS Prescriptions Report enables the provider to view and monitor the prescriptions for controlled substances sent electronically for their patients. The provider must ensure that the prescriptions are legitimate, and no suspicious activity has occurred. The recommended viewing of these reports is daily. ePCS Auditable Events Report enables the system administrator to track ePCS actions and events for one or more users to determine if any of these actions indicate signs of improper usage or abuse. Submit Electronic Prescriptions of Controlled Substances

In NextGen® Enterprise EHR, open the Medications module. Select Prescribe New. The Medication Search window opens. Select a controlled substance to prescribe. On the medication details toolbar, select Send. Note: If the Prescribed Elsewhere check box is selected, the Print and Send buttons are unavailable. You must review the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) report that is generated automatically when you prescribe a controlled substance. The Send Prescription window displays the logo and appropriate fields for the configured ePCS authentication method. Send Prescription Note: If you select multiple medications, then you can send medications to multiple destinations. From the Destination list, select a pharmacy. You can also search for a pharmacy and then select the pharmacy. If the patient does not have a default or preferred pharmacy, select Patient's Primary Default Pharmacy.
