Acknowledge Problem - Drug Interactions

The DUR runs against all active and pending medications on the patient's chart. If any interactions are found, they appear on the Drug Interaction window. Note: User-defined medications are not checked for interactions. The display of problem interactions is based on the display levels set for the system and/or a specific user. If the Show DUR across enterprise option is enabled, NextGen® Enterprise EHR checks for possible interactions with the patient's medications across all practices. CAUTION: You must review and acknowledge each interaction alert. Take the necessary steps to avoid an adverse reaction for the patient. Repeat the following steps for each interaction alert. Select the interaction alert. Review the prescribed medication and the alert message. Select Acknowledge. NextGen® Enterprise EHR accepts the acknowledgment and automatically selects the next available medication Interaction. A check mark appears next to the interaction. Allergy DUR Preferences

This section outlines the preferences that can be used to perform an allergy interaction DUR: Setting up the Medications Operations Right for Interaction Display Level. You can select User Group in Enterprise Practice > Rights > OPERATIONS > Medications. DUR Preferences

The Drug Utilization Review (DUR) preferences enable you to create a predefined list of the override reasons required for acknowledging all DUR interactions. If you have the necessary user rights and permissions, you can set the following display levels: Interaction Display Level Condition Interaction Display Level Pediatric Precautions Display Level Geriatric Precautions Display Level Allergy Interactions Display Level Note: The interaction default value should be equal to or greater than the interaction minimum value for all interaction settings in Universal Preferences. Set Allergy Interactions Display Level

You can set the allergy interactions display levels in the DUR Preferences as per your preference to see allergy interactions or inactive ingredient interactions in the Drug Interaction window. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. From the top toolbar, select Tools > Preferences. The Preferences window opens. Select the Medications tab. Select DUR. The DUR Preferences window opens. Select the Allergy Interactions Display Level tab. Select a display level. To display the inactive medication ingredient interactions along with the allergy interactions, select the Allergy Interaction checking for Inactive Medication Ingredients check box. To display the interactions based on the universal system setting, select the Use System Default check box. Note: The Use System Default option disables Allergy Interaction checking for Inactive Medication Ingredients and the display levels. Select OK. Parent topic: Drug to Allergy Interaction

Change the Pediatric Precautions Display Level

You can adjust the display view for the pediatric precaution levels of interactions. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. From the Tools Menu, select Preferences. The Preferences window opens. Select the Medications tab. Select DUR. The DUR Preferences window opens. DUR Preferences Select the Pediatric Precautions Display Level tab. DUR Preferences Set the display to a specific level or select the Use System Default check box to display the Interactions based upon the universal system setting. If necessary, select Help to view the Interaction Display Level Help window. Select OK. CAUTION: You cannot set the Display Level lower than the required system minimum. Medication Universal Preferences

The Medication Universal Preferences control various elements in the Medications module and the Medication Allergies module in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Preference Description Allergy Interaction Level Display Default Sets the default display levels for allergy interactions for all users in the system. Allergy Interaction Level Display Minimum Sets the minimum allowed display level that a user is able to set in the User Preferences in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. The following display levels are available: 3 - All significant and cross sensitivity allergy alerts 2 - All significant allergy interactions 1 - Most significant allergy interactions 0 - Disable allergy alerts Setting the minimum display level determines the level of allergic interactions displayed. For example, setting the preference to display Level 2 displays both Level 1 and Level 2 alerts whereas setting the value to Level 3 displays Level 1, 2, and 3 alerts.
