Acknowledge Allergy - Drug Interactions

The DUR checks the selected allergy against the list of all active medications. If any interactions are found, they appear on the Interaction Check DUR window. Note: User-defined allergies and medications are not checked for interactions. The display of allergy interactions is based on the display levels set for the system and/or a specific user. If the Show DUR across enterprise option is enabled, NextGen® Enterprise EHR checks for possible interactions with the patient's medications across all practices. CAUTION: You must review and acknowledge each interaction alert. If you select the Cancel button, your action is audited, and you must enter the reason for cancellation. Take the necessary steps to avoid an adverse reaction for the patient. Repeat the following steps for each interaction alert. Select the interaction alert. Patient Allergy Trigger Overview

You can run the Patient Allergy trigger to add an allergy directly to the patient's allergy list instead of using the Medication Allergies module. The trigger action updates the module. The Patient Allergy trigger is set up in Template Editor. Note: If you execute this trigger to add an allergy that already exists, a message appears, asking if you want to add the allergy again. You can select Yes to add the allergy again, or select No to cancel the action. The trigger may be set up to add multiple reactions for an allergy, up to a maximum of five. You may also be able to manually enter a reaction in a data entry field. The system locates and stores any SNOMED codes associated with allergy reactions. If a Drug Utilization Review (DUR) is set up, you can check for interactions between each patient allergy that is added and all of the active medications prescribed to the patient. Set Allergy Interactions Display Level

You can set the allergy interactions display levels in the DUR Preferences as per your preference to see allergy interactions or inactive ingredient interactions in the Drug Interaction window. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. From the top toolbar, select Tools > Preferences. The Preferences window opens. Select the Medications tab. Select DUR. The DUR Preferences window opens. Select the Allergy Interactions Display Level tab. Select a display level. To display the inactive medication ingredient interactions along with the allergy interactions, select the Allergy Interaction checking for Inactive Medication Ingredients check box. To display the interactions based on the universal system setting, select the Use System Default check box. Note: The Use System Default option disables Allergy Interaction checking for Inactive Medication Ingredients and the display levels. Select OK. Parent topic: Drug to Allergy Interaction
