Change the Receiving Provider for a Closed Loop Referral

You cannot directly change the referral recipient for a referral request that is still in progress. Instead, you can initiate a new referral request for the same referral order. When you do this, NextGen® Enterprise EHR automatically cancels the original referral request.

  1. In the Data Share module, select the Export tab.
  2. In the To field, specify the new referral recipient.
  3. In the Associated Referral field, select the same referral order that you did in the original referral request.
  4. Fill in the remaining fields the same way that you did in the original referral request, and then select Preview and Export.
    NextGen® Enterprise EHR creates a new referral request. Depending on whether the recipient can receive closed loop referrals, NextGen® Enterprise EHR sends a closed loop referral or a direct message referral. Additionally, NextGen® Enterprise EHR sends a cancellation notice to the recipient of the original closed loop referral request.
