Option	Description
Check Medical Necessity	This option appears if you are licensed to use the NextGen® Medical Necessity Check. Certain government insurances (Medicare part B) require approval of a test's necessity before it can be ordered and paid for. The NextGen® Medical Necessity Check uses a defined list of tests that are linked to medical problems. The list is updated quarterly. When selected, this option runs the NextGen® Medical Necessity Check against the tests and diagnosis codes selected. File Maintenance setup is required to make the NextGen® Medical Necessity Check available.
Delete Failed Tests	This option appears if you are licensed to use the NextGen® Medical Necessity Check. When selected, this option removes tests from the order that have failed the medical necessity check.
Delete Test	Removes the selected test from this order.
Assign All Diagnosis	Selects (assigns) all diagnoses for all tests associated with an order.
Unassign All Diagnosis	Clears all diagnoses associated with this order.
Set Schedule	Enables you to set up future or recurring schedules.
Dual Coding	For scheduling future or recurring tests for lab and radiology orders, if an ICD-10 code was not retrieved, you can select this option to manually map an ICD-9 code to the ICD-10 code.

Checking Medical Necessity for a Test

To determine if Medicare or another insurance (which follows Medicare guidelines) covers the cost of a test, you can run the NextGen® Medical Necessity Check. You can set up the Medical Necessity Check in File Maintenance to run automatically when you save an order or you can run it manually. Note: To use the NextGen® Medical Necessity Check when selecting tests, you must first set it up in File Maintenance. For more information about setting up Medical Necessity, go to the NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the Orders Module Setup Guide for NextGen® Enterprise. To run it manually, select the Check Medical Necessity in the Assign Diagnosis to Selected Tests panel. All tests submitted through the Orders module should have a diagnosis associated with them. You must select an active problem that is associated on the patient's chart. You can also attach AOE questions with the tests. You should run Medical Necessity check before ordering a test. Place an Order for a Lab or Radiology Guideline Item Using the Order Module

You can place an order for a lab or radiology guideline item on the Order module. You can order lab and radiology orderable guideline items that are due from the Order module when the Enable Order Module setting in the Orders/Plans section on the Practice Configuration practice template is selected. Home Page The information on how to configure the Care Guidelines Paged View template to enable the direct placement of orders for guideline items from the Order module is as below: Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Assign Diagnosis Codes to a Diagnosis Group

You can assign diagnosis codes to existing diagnosis groups, which are used on medical record templates for documenting patient's assessment. The active diagnosis codes configured in the diagnosis code library of File Maintenance can be assigned to the diagnosis groups available on the Specialty Diagnosis Group Config template. For more information on configuring diagnosis code library, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download the latest File Maintenance Libraries Guide for NextGen® Enterprise. On the Specialty Diagnosis Group Config template, expand the Manage Diagnosis Groups and Codes panel. Note: By default, all active diagnosis groups are displayed in the grid of the Add Diagnosis Group section. You can filter the values in the grid by selecting the View Dx groups created/modified today option or entering the desired value in the Show field. Check Medical Necessity for Laboratory and Diagnostic Order Items

Before you begin Ensure that you have the license for medical necessity check. Ensure that you have configured medical necessity check in File Maintenance. Ensure that you have selected the insurance information for the patient in the All tab. Note: Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) derives the insurance settings from the Practice Preferences configuration. Set up a Schedule for a Recurring Order

When you create a new lab or radiology order, you can set up recurring order schedules on the Set Order Schedule window. You can set up one schedule or multiple schedules for the tests you select. You can also set up recurring orders in the same session on the Set Order Schedule window after creating your future order schedules. Create a Lab or Radiology order. Select order criteria (that is, diagnosis, favorites, if appropriate). To schedule a recurring order, select Set Schedule in the Assign Diagnosis to Selected Tests panel. The Set Order Schedule window opens. Select the Recurring Order option. Select the order to schedule. Select the dates when the orders should occur. For example, your patient needs to have a test on a monthly basis for the next year. Note: You can update the expiration date timeframe. However, you cannot exceed the number of months your practice has set up in File Maintenance > EHR > Practices > Practice Preferences > Orders Module > FutureRecurring Orders Expi
