Approve an Rx Change Request from the Workflow Module

You can approve the Rx Change request for different request types from the Workflow module.
  1. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR and open the Workflow module.
  2. Select the Clinical Tasking tab and select an Rx Change request from the task list.
    The Rx Change request details and patient information appear.

  3. Select the appropriate request type and do one of the following:
    • If the request type is Prior Authorization, enter the Prior Authorization ID provided by the Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) and if necessary, select a Date.
    • If the request type is Generic Substitution, select a generic medication under Suggested Medication.
    • If the request type is Drug Use Evaluation, Script Clarification, or Out of Stock, select a generic medication under Suggested Medication.
      For the Drug Use Evaluation request type, you can do one of the following:
      • Approve the Rx Change request of the suggested medication. NextGen® Enterprise EHR sends a Cancel Rx request to make the original medication inactive and places the new medication on the patient's chart in Active status.
      • Edit the suggested medication and approve the response with changes. NextGen® Enterprise EHR sends a Cancel Rx request to make the original medication inactive and places the new medication on the patient's chart in Active status.
    • If the request type is Therapeutic Interchange because of formulary compliance, approve or edit the prescription.
    • If the request type is Prescriber Evaluation, select a generic medication from the Suggested Medication list. If you select Approve, NextGen® Enterprise EHR sends a Validated status to the pharmacy.
  4. If necessary, enter Notes to Pharmacy.
  5. To accept the request, select Approve.
    If you select a different medication and NextGen® Enterprise EHR detects any drug interactions, the Drug Interaction window opens.
    1. Select a drug interaction and select Acknowledge.
      You can enter a reason for the acknowledgement if necessary.
      An acknowledgement check mark appears for the drug interaction.
    2. Select Done.
      The Send RxChange Response window opens.

  6. Select Send.
