Add Comments and Schedules for Laboratory and Diagnostic Order Items

For laboratory and diagnostic orders items, you can document the reason for ordering a test and create schedules for future and recurring orders.
  1. Open CPOE.
  2. Select an order item.
  3. Assign diagnoses to the selected order item.
  4. Select the Laboratory or Diagnostic tab.
  5. To document comments for an order item, under Comments and Schedule, enter your comments in the corresponding Ordering Reason box.

  6. To create a schedule for a future or recurring order, select Set Schedule.
    The Set Order Schedule window opens.

  7. From the Items Available for Schedule list, select the order item.
  8. For a future order, do the following:
    1. Select Future order (one-time only).
    2. To select the future processing date for the order, either select the number of days, weeks, months, or years in Schedule in, or select a specific date from the calendar.
    3. To select the expiration date for the schedule, either select the number of days, weeks, months, or years in Expires, or select a specific date from the calendar.
    4. To automatically release the order when due, select the Automatically release the order when it is due check box.
    5. To assign dates for more future orders, select the next order to schedule.
      You can set up a future order schedule for a glucose test for the subsequent week, and another schedule for a urinalysis test to occur on the subsequent month.
    6. To remove the schedule for an order, select the order in the list, and then select Unschedule.
    7. To save your future order schedule and close the Set Order Schedule window, select Accept & Close.
  9. For a recurring order, do the following:
    1. Select Recurring order.
    2. To select the re-occurrence start date on the current date, select the Start Today check box.
    3. To select a future re-occurrence date for the order, either select the number of days, weeks, months, or years in Start in, or select a specific date from the calendar.
    4. To select the expiration date for the schedule, either select the number of days, weeks, months, or years in Expires, or select a specific date from the calendar.
    5. To automatically release the order when due, select the Automatically release the order when it is due check box.
    6. To assign dates for more recurring orders, select the next order to schedule.
    7. To remove the schedule for an order, select the order in the list, and then select Unschedule.
    8. To save your recurring order schedule and close the Set Order Schedule window, select Accept & Close.
