Observation Codes for Lab Results

The InfoButton lists only seven observation codes even though the Lab Result Interface protocol contains 32 codes that can accompany a lab result. The following table describes the seven observation codes that can be passed through the URL to an educational resource. Observation Code Description A Abnormal for nominal observations, all service types AA Abnormal Alert for nominal observations, all service type HH High Alert above the upper threshold for quantitative observations LL Low Alert below lower alert threshold for quantitative observations H High above high normal for quantitative observations L Low below low normal for quantitative observations N Normal for all service types Parent topic: Access External Patient Education from the Orders Module

Access Clinical Decision Support from the Procedures Module

You can access the Clinical Decision Support resource from the Procedures module. The external resource collects the CPT information for the selected procedure and the patient’s age, age range, and gender. The information is passed through the InfoButton to the external system. Open the Procedures module for a patient. Enter a new procedure for the patient, if required. Right-click the procedure, and then select Resources > Clinical Decision Support. Access Clinical Decision Support from the Problems Module

You can access the Clinical Decision Support resource from the Problems module. The Clinical Decision Support resource collects ICD-9, ICD-10 (as available), or SNOMED CT code information for the selected problem and the patient’s age, age range, and gender. The information is passed through the InfoButton to the external system. Open the Problems module for a patient. Enter a new problem in the Problem List tab or the Billing ICD List tab, if required. Note: The Problem List tab has the SNOMED CT term while the Billing ICD List tab has the ICD-9, or where applicable, ICD-10 code. Do one of the following: Right-click the problem, and then select Resources > Clinical Decision Support. Select the problem, and then select Resources > Clinical Decision Support from the Problems module toolbar. The application directs you to the external URL set up in File Maintenance. You can access the Clinical Decision Support resource from the Medication Allergies module. The Clinical Decision Support resource collects RxNorm information for the selected allergy and the patient’s age, age range, and gender. The information is passed through the InfoButton to the external system. Open the Medication Allergies module for a patient. Enter a new allergy, if required. Access Clinical Decision Support from the Medications Module

You can access the Clinical Decision Support resource from the Medications module. The Clinical Decision Support resource collects the RxNorm information for the selected medication and patient’s age, age range, and gender. The information is passed through the InfoButton to the external system. Open the Medications module for a patient. Enter a new medication for the patient, if required. Do one of the following: Right-click the medication, and then select Resources > Clinical Decision Support. Select the medication, and then select Resources > Clinical Decision Support from the Medications module toolbar. The application directs you to the external URL set up in File Maintenance. Closing the website returns you to the original patient and location. Note: The Clinical Decision Support resource is also available from the Medication Search window. Access External Patient Education from the Orders Module

You can access the External Patient Education resource from the Orders module. The external resource collects the LOINC code or CPT4 codes for the selected lab result and the patient’s age, age range, gender, and observation interpretation flag (such as normal or abnormal). This information is passed through the InfoButton to the external system. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open the Orders module for a patient. Note: Orders must have results before you can access external educational resources. Select the result, and then select Resources > External Patient Education on the Orders module toolbar.
