Term	Description
Job	A task that generates a report or a claim. A job can have more than one action. For example, after a job generates a report, it can also print the report.
Package	A collection of one or more jobs. NextGen® Background Business Processor executes packages as per the schedule. NextGen® Background Business Processor executes jobs only when they are part of a package. This means that even if there is only one job that you want NextGen® Background Business Processor to perform, you must create a package to which you can add the job.
Server	Any computer that is used to execute scheduled packages. A desktop workstation can serve as a NextGen® Background Business Processor server like a dedicated network server.
Engine Service	A program that runs in the background on the server. It regularly queries the NextGen database to determine if there are any packages to run on the server.

NextGen® Background Business Processor System Requirements

The NextGen® Background Business Processor server is a fat client running its own instances of NextGen applications. To avoid package and job failures, all NextGen® Background Business Processor servers must be updated to the current version during an upgrade (all end user workstations). The NextGen® Background Business Processor server must meet the following requirements to run all instances of NextGen applications: For Light or Moderate process categories, and for packages that do not run Report Server processes, the following hardware requirements apply in accordance with the NextGen application requirements: Single Processor, 2GB Memory, and any supported operating system in Legacy Mode (x32 bit) For Heavy or Severe process categories, and for packages that run Report Server processes, the following hardware requirements apply in accordance with the NextGen Application requirements: Dual Core Processor, 4GB Memory, and any supported operating system in Legacy Mode (x32 bit) .NET F

Access NextGen® Background Business Processor

Access NextGen® Background Business Processor from the application launcher, or from NextGen® Enterprise PM through the Tasks menu or by selecting the NextGen® Background Business Processor icon. However, when using Single Sign On, if you are already logged on to NextGen® Enterprise EHR, NextGen® Enterprise PM, NextGen® Document Management, or NextGen® Optical Management, you can access NextGen® Background Business Processor without logging on again. Automating Background Processes

The NextGen® Background Business Processor assists you in scheduling packages (tasks that require manual execution) for automatic completion. For example, you can create a package that automatically generates and prints the Daily Balance report at the end of each day. You can configure the NextGen® Background Business Processor to send a notification email after it completes an automated NextGen® Background Business Processor process. Install the NextGen® Background Business Processor Engine Service

The NextGen® Background Business Processor Engine Service is a program that runs in the background on the computer on which it is installed. Its job is to regularly query the NextGen database to determine if there are any packages to run on the server. To execute the requested processes, the NextGen® Background Business Processor Engine Service launches modules of the NextGen® Enterprise PM application or the Report Server behind the scenes to perform the needed tasks. For example, if you use the NextGen® Background Business Processor Manager to set up pending paper claims to print automatically every day at 3:00 PM, the NextGen® Background Business Processor Engine Service sees the NextGen® Background Business Processor setting recorded in the NextGen database. The NextGen® Background Business Processor Manager acts upon it by launching NextGen® Enterprise PM in the background at 3:00 PM and commanding it to print all pending paper claims. Configure Servers for NextGen® Background Business Processor

You must select a server for NextGen® Background Business Processor to use when it performs automated NextGen® Enterprise PM processes. To create a server that is eligible for NextGen® Background Business Processor to use, install the NextGen® Background Business Processor Engine service on it. On the Server List tab, the NextGen® Background Business Processor Manager lists each server on the network on which the NextGen® Background Business Processor Engine Service exists.
