Default Visit Specialties

You can set the default visit specialty for the rendering provider. You can configure the Default Visit Specialty panel on the Framework Content system template. When the rendering provider selects a default visit specialty for a patient's encounter, the same visit specialty copies forward to the next encounter. NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine includes a number of specialty-specific templates that open with a pre-defined Specialty at runtime. For example, if you select the Home Page - Allergy template from the Templates module, the application automatically displays Allergy and Immunology in the Specialty field. You can configure the same in the Framework Template Set section of the Practice Configuration practice template. Managing Basic Configuration

Before you begin, you can configure some optional settings such as template preferences, template links, and so on. Optimizing basic settings can enhance work outcomes. NextGen Healthcare recommends that you configure the basic settings for ease of use NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Set Up Template Preferences You can configure the default and preferred templates to automatically open the templates for an encounter. You can also configure the workflow after opening an encounter from the Workflow Appointment list. Template Links You can use links to open frequently used templates. Navigation Bar On the navigation bar, you can find customizable links to open additional templates that may not be part of the main workflow. Set Up HPIs to Appear in the Reason for Visit You can set up the History of Present Illness (HPI) to appear in the reason for visit. Joint Commission Standards Configuration and Ophthalmology

The Joint Commission Standards (formerly known as the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations or JCAHO) configuration setting for all NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine templates is found on the Practice Configuration practice template. This setting should be selected by those practices that are required to adhere to The Joint Commission Standards. When the Enable The Joint Commission Standards check box is selected, all additional fields and links related to The Joint Commission related content found within NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine is enabled. Occasionally, this may affect encounter documentation workflow. Enabling the Joint Commission requirement gives a hard stop to workflow, such that allergies must be documented/updated before anything else is done. Access the Practice Configuration Template

For more information on the Practice Configuration template, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download the latest Practice Configuration Template User Guide for NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine. From the File menu, select System \ Practice Template. The Select Template window opens. Click the Practice tab. If the Practice Configuration template is not in your Preferred templates list, in the Show section, select the All option. A list of practice templates appears. Document New Allergies for a Patient

You can document allergy details of a patient. Before you begin If the Joint Commission standards are enabled on the Practice Configuration template, document allergy information after entering whether the patient is new or established along with the Visit Type and Historian. After documenting allergies, continue entering other details. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. On the Intake template, in the Allergies panel, select Add. The age-specific allergies template opens. Select the applicable check boxes, and then select the associated reaction from the corresponding list. If the patient's allergy information is not available on the template, select Manage Allergies and document the allergy details. If you want to document the allergy severity and additional details, select Manage Allergies. A message appears indicating to confirm if you want to add the selected allergy to the Medication Allergies module.
