Calculate the EDD Using Sonogram Results

Select the Gestational Age tab. The Gestational Age- Obstetrics template opens. Expand the Estimated Date of Delivery panel. Select the first ultrasound date from the Ultrasound 1 field and enter the days and weeks in the Ultrasound template. To select the ultrasound-determined EDD, select the Ultrasound 1 Adjusted option. The EDD based on ultrasound result appears. Select the EDD Comments text box to enter any comments. This ultrasound-determined EDD replaces the previously entered EDD in the Initial/Working EDD field. It is not necessary to enter the dates of a second sonogram, initial exam, conception date or IVF date unless it is clinically indicated dating a pregnancy for a particular patient. Document the Last Menstrual Period

Select the Gestational Age tab. The Gestational Age- Obstetrics template opens. Expand the Estimated Date of Delivery panel. In the LMP field enter the LMP, if not entered. An EDD automatically displays to the right of the LMP field. The Consistent with LMP option is selected as the calculation method for the EDD. This EDD displays in the Initial/Working EDD field. Also, the EGA is automatically calculated and displays in the EGA this encounter field. Select the Definite, Approximate (month known), or Unknown option in the LMP section. Note: In most practices, the intake staff enters this information and the provider would confirm or edit this information. The NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine calculates an EDD using sonogram results, initial exam, date of conception, or date of in vitro fertilization (IVF). Documenting the Estimated Date of Delivery Panel

When you open the Gestational Age template, you can view the expanded Estimated Date of Delivery panel appears. Estimated Date of Delivery If a last menstrual period was entered on the Vital Signs template, that last menstrual period (LMP) must display in the LMP Date field. Note: This only happens if the intake staff goes from the Intake template to the Gestational Age template. If they open another template in between, it does not automatically fill the LMP on the Gestational Age template. Therefore, even if the intake staff is not editing any information on Gestational Age, the template must be opened after opening Intake to obtain the LMP from vital signs. Document the Last Menstrual Period You can document the last menstrual period in the Estimated Date of Delivery panel. Select the Most Accurate EDD You can select the most accurate or final EDD in the Estimated Date of Delivery panel. Enter Information in the Estimated Date of Delivery panel in the Gestational Age Tab

Open the Gestational Age tab. Open the Estimated Date of Delivery panel. Select the LMP field and select a prior date that is at least 3 months before date from the encounter date. Select the Ultrasound 1 field and select a prior date of at least 1 month before date from the encounter date. Enter the days or weeks in the Ultrasound window. Select the Ultrasound 2 field and select a date between LMP and Ultrasound 1 date. Enter the days or weeks in the Ultrasound window. Select the Use a final EDD check box. Document in the 18 - 20 Week EDD Update Panel

Expand the 18-20 Week Update panel, if desired and if appropriate during the initial prenatal visit. This panel is sometimes used for patients who have not had sonograms during their pregnancy. 18-20 Week Update panel Select a date from the Quickening Date field. Select the +20 or +22 option, depending on whether the patient is a multiparous patient or not. Select the Assign quickening date to Adjusted (provider) EDD date field option if this date should be used to determine the EDD. The EDD date is calculated accordingly and updated in the Initial/Working EDD field. Select a date from the Fundal ht. at umbil Date field. Select the +20 option if this is the first pregnancy. Select the Assign fundal height date to Adjusted (provider) EDD date field option if this EDD should be used to determine the EDD. EDD Edit Log Template

The EDD Edit Log panel helps you view the edit log and audit details of Estimated Date of Delivery (EDD). Your first EDD entry for a patient is not displayed on the EDD Edit Log panel until you view the same on the Retired EDD Log panel. However, the subsequent updates that either you or any another user makes on the Estimated Date of Delivery panel for the same patient is displayed on the EDD Edit Log panel automatically.
