Naming Conventions for a Quick Note
Even in a small practice, the number of saved Quick Notes can quickly rise making it challenging to locate a specific Quick Note among a long list of other similarly named Quick Notes. It is therefore essential that practices establish and adhere to Quick Note naming conventions.
While you can establish your own naming conventions, NextGen Healthcare recommends that you use provider-initials, gender, laterality, name where:
- Provider initials - 3-letter initials of the provider creating the Quick Note. Using this convention enables providers to quickly locate their own Quick Note.
- Gender – since many of the templates have variations for male and female patients, specifying the gender is essential. For non-gender specific cases, use the word 'both'.
- Laterality – for many specialties, it is important to know the laterality of the condition, either right, left, or bilateral.
- Name – an identifier that provides a meaningful description of the Quick Note.
An example of a recommended name would be: msk both bilateral asthma acute.
