Fields in the Specimen Collection Panel

Element	Description
Specimen collection filter	Default filter for the grid. Displays all specimen records. Use the Send to and Ordered fields to filter the specimen records.
Specimen order	Displays the status of the specimen records.
Edit button	Displays when the Specimen order filter is selected. Enables you to edit the status of the order or enter the result.
Requisition button	Generates the lab requisition document.

Document Specimen Collection Details

On the ASC-Intraprocedure template, navigate to the Specimen Collection panel, and click Add. The ASC Specimen Collection template launches. Enter the following specimen collection details: Send to Method Type Qty To enter the Location where the specimen was obtained, do one of the following: To add a single location, select a value from the list and click Cancel. To add more than one location, select a value from the list, click OK to select another location, and then click Cancel to close the list. The selected options concatenate in the Location field separated by commas. The maximum character limit of the field is 100. An alert message appears if you exceed the maximum limit of characters in the Location field. Select the Container the specimen is stored in from the list. The system populates the following fields with data from the corresponding procedure documented in the Procedure panel. Specimen Collection Panel

The Specimen Collection panel enables you to document all of the information needed to send the pathology specimen to a lab for processing, and to print out a complete lab requisition containing all the required documentation. You can print individual lab requisitions for an individual or a group of specimens when all the specimens are being sent to a single lab. Place an Order for Lab or Diagnosis in the Care Guidelines Template

Review the guideline items in the Care Guidelines panel at each encounter. Items with status due are the items that can be ordered, such as labs and diagnostic studies. Highlight a guideline item to be ordered in the grid. Details for the guideline populate in the respective fields above the grid. Click the Order button. The item's status is updated to display ordered and the Action field display the date ordered. If you have recommended care items in the grid, select a recommended care in the grid. Do any of the following: In the Goal field, type a goal for the patient. Click the blue down-arrow and select a goal from the list. Click the Status field and select the status of the recommended care. Click the Action field and select the action performed for the recommended care. After placing orders for labs and radiology diagnostic studies, it is important to process the orders by selecting which lab or radiology facility will perform each test and submit the orders to the Orders Module

Orders Summary Grid Columns

The following table lists the columns that may appear on the Orders Summary grid for Lab and Radiology orders based on the pre-defined or user-defined filter you select. Column Description Image Type Opens an icon indicating the order type. This column appears by default for all filters. Comments Contains a link to the associated comments in the Sign-off and Tracking Comments panel. Documents Contains a link to an associated document or image or URL in the Results panel for the specific order. Recurrence Opens an icon indicating a future or recurring order. You can select the icon to open the View Order Schedule window where you can view order schedule. Ordered Elsewhere Opens an icon indicating the order was created outside the NextGen® Enterprise system. Order # The number assigned to an order when you create and save a new order. Document Specimen Removal without Retrieval Details

The Specimen Collection panel also allows you to document the case where the specimen was removed but could not be retrieved and was left in the body. In the Specimen Collection panel, click Add to open the ASC Specimen Collection template. Click No for Specimen obtained. Specimen Collection Click the Method field and select a pathology method from the list. The Pathology Type list opens. Select the specimen type from the list. Enter the quality of the specimen in the Qty field. You can click the drop-down arrow and enter the quality using the numeric keypad. Click Location and select the location from where the specimen is obtained. You can select multiple locations from the list. To add more than one location, click OK and select another location. Click Cancel to close the list. If applicable, click Procedure and select the applicable procedure from the list. Place Orders for Guideline Items

You can process the order placed for the care guidelines of the patient. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Select the Care Guidelines link on any of the main template. The Care Guidelines Paged View template opens. In the Care Guidelines panel, select the Grid View link. The Care Guidelines grid view template opens. Select a guideline item in the grid. Details for the guideline appears in the fields. You can order items with status due, such as labs and diagnostic studies. Select Order. The item's Status displays ordered. For records that previously display the status due, such as labs and diagnostics, the Action field displays the date ordered.
