Document a Patient's Respiration and Pulse Oximetry, Peak Flow, and Pain Level

You can document a patient's respiration and pulse oximetry, peak flow and pain level using the Vital Signs panel.

  1. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
  2. Select the Care Guidelines link on any of the main template.
    The Care Guidelines Paged View template opens.
  3. In the Care Guidelines panel, select the Grid View link.
    The Care Guidelines grid view template opens.
  4. In the Vital Signs panel, select Add.
    The Adult Vital Signs [New Record] template opens.
  5. Document the Patient's Respiration and Pulse Oximetry.
    • Enter a value in the Respiration field.
    • Select a method and enter any additional information for the patient's respiration.
    • Enter the appropriate values for pulse oximetry.
    • Select a source and either the Pre-treatment or Post-treatment option. Complete any additional information.
  6. Document the Patient's Peak Flow.
    • Enter the appropriate values for peak flow.
    • Select either the Pre-treatment or Post-treatment option.
    • Select a method.
  7. Document the patient's Pain level.
    • In the Pain level section, select the pain level.

      The default method Numeric Pain Intensity Scale appears in the Method field. you can change the method, if required.

    • Select the Information icon to open the Pain Scale References - Info information template, if needed.
    • The Pain Plan link opens the Health Promotion Plan template where you can document a plan of care, if needed.
    • Select the HAQ-DI link to complete a disability questionnaire, if needed.
  8. Use the Comments field to enter additional comments, if needed.
  9. For a female patient, enter the date of the last menstrual period in the LMP date field, if necessary. The LMP date field and additional related fields only display for female patients.
After you save and close the Vital Signs [New Record] template, the information appears in the Vital Signs grid. If any of the vital signs are outside the normal range (either too high or too low) the Vital Signs Outside Normal Range alert appears in the Vital Signs panel.

Only the information documented on the current day appears in the Vital Signs grid.
