Document the Patient's Respiration and Pulse Oximetry

You can measure the respiratory rate and oxygen saturation level of a patient using the Vital Signs template.

  1. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
  2. Open a patient's record, and then open an encounter.
  3. On Top Toolbar, select Templates .
    The Select Template window opens.
  4. Open the Intake template.
  5. Expand the Vital Signs panel and select Add.
    The age-specific vital signs template opens.
  6. In Respiration and Pulse Ox, enter the respiratory rate value in the Respiration field within the 0 – 99 range.
  7. Select the method of measuring the respiratory rate.
  8. Enter a value in the FIO2 field within the 20 – 100 range.
  9. Enter oxygen concentration for the patient's respiration.
  10. Enter the pulse oxygen rate during rest and ambulation of the patient within the 0 – 100 range.
  11. Enter the pulse oximetry resting and ambulation readings in the Pulse Ox Rest and Pulse Ox Amb fields within the 0 – 100 range.
  12. Select a source of oxygen supply.
  13. Select Pre-treatment or Post-treatment.
  14. To measure the oxygen level, select the finger that is used for inserting the probe.
  15. Save and close the template.
