Documenting Dental Patient Encounters

You can use the Home Page and Histories templates in NextGen Adaptive Content Engine to document the encounter details of a dental patient. The Dental User Guide forNextGen®Adaptive Content Engine is intended for dental professionals, such as providers, nurses, and front office staff, responsible for documenting and processing patient information. The Dental User Guide forNextGen®Adaptive Content Engine also provides information on how to document pediatric dental care. You can document the dental office and virtual visit workflows on the Home Page and Histories templates. Before documenting a standard visit, you must configure settings to quickly access the templates. The common configurations associated with the templates include the links in the navigation bar, reasons for visit, medications, allergies, social history and so on. Histories Template

The Histories template enables you to document a patient's social history, problem list, medical or surgical history, diagnostic study history, and family history. The panels available in the Histories template are as follows: Section Description Problem List You can view, add, modify and retrieve patient's clinical problems and chronic conditions. Medical/Surgical/Interim You can document the patient's problem list and social, medical or surgical, diagnostic study, and family histories. Diagnostics Studies You can document the patient's diagnostic tests and its associated results. Family You can document the family history of the patient. Social You can document the social history of an adult or a pediatric patient. The categories in the social history includes tobacco/vaping use, alcohol/caffeine, lifestyle, occupation and so on. You can review and document the summary of a patient on the Home Page template. The Home Page template enables you to document patient's problems, histories, allergies, medications, vital signs, orders, and so on. Documenting Dental Treatment Plans

You can view the dental treatment plan history for the patient and add additional comments or treatment information to it. When you add or update the dental treatment plan in NextGen® EDR, the plan automatically reflects in the Dental Treatment Plan panel on the Home Page - Dental template in the NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine. The treatment plan information appears in the Treatment Plan History grid. You can add additional details to the grid present in the Dental Treatment Plan. The treatment information that you entered for the current encounter appears in the Patient Plan document. You can print the patient plan document by using the Patient Plan button. Reviewing Patient's History

You can view the history of the patient's medical, surgical, interim, family, and social details in the History panel. The history details in the grid are updated automatically when you add any detail in the Histories template. Document the History Review

You can document the review details of a patient's history in the generated encounter document. You can also document the review status of medical, surgical, family, and social histories on the template. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. On the Histories template, select the History Review link. History Review The History Review template opens. In Med/Surg/Interim Hx, Family, and Social, select the applicable option. Detailed document enables you to view all the details entered in the Histories template in the encounter document. Reviewed, updated enables you to indicate that you have reviewed and updated the patient's histories. Reviewed, no changes enables you to indicate that you have reviewed the patient's histories but made no changes. History unobtainable enables you to indicate that the information is not obtainable and enter the reason in the corresponding field. Select Save & Close.
