Create a New Custom DB Picklist
You can create a DB picklist at an enterprise-level, or use a practice ID to associate the picklist with a practice, location, and provider.
When setting up the qualifiers, remember to provide a relevant caption for each qualifier. These captions appear when setting up custom DB picklist items.
Note: For a new custom DB picklist, you must create triggers on the corresponding fields in the Template Editor to open the DB picklist. Before you can edit triggers on the field, you must copy and save the template with a unique name that will not be overwritten the next time you upgrade to a laterst version.
- From the top panel of the Custom DBPicklists system template, click the Add button.
The Custom DB Picklist Create and Define window opens.
- In the Custom DBPicklist name field, enter a unique name.
Important: By default, DB picklists are system-wide unless they are associated with a practice ID. Selecting a practice ID makes the new DB picklist available only for the selected practice.
- If you want to configure the DB picklist to be specific to a practice, a location, and a provider in the Properties section, select all the check boxes that apply:
- Edit/filter by practice
- Edit/filter by location
- Edit/filter by provider
Note: Setting the properties in the Custom DB Picklists template is only effective if the templates are also set to use them. - If applicable, click the Practice ID field and select a practice ID to associate with the new DB picklist from the Practice list.
Note: To enable the Practice ID field, you must select the Edit/filter by practice check box, as indicated in step 3.
- Click the Edit mode field and select one of the following:
- A - Add only
- E - Edit existing
- F - Full
- N - No control
If you want to further configure the new DB picklist, select F for full control. - In the Comments field, enter any additional information.
- In the Qualifiers section, enter relevant data in the Qualifier 1 field.
- (Optional) Select the Allow editing and Used for output options for Qualifier 1.
When you select the Used for output check box, the Maximum character length of output field is enabled.
- (Optional) Click the Maximum character length of output field and enter the maximum length to use for that qualifier.
Note: The maximum number of characters per qualifier is 100.
- If appropriate, repeat steps 7 through 10 for Qualifier 2, Qualifier 3, and Qualifier 4.
- Click Save and Close.
You will be redirected to the Custom DBPicklists template.
The newly added custom DB picklist is added to the Custom DBPicklists template's top grid.
