Care Guidelines Setup

On the Care Guidelines Setup template, you can set up the guideline test items. Care guidelines consist of orderable items (previously known as protocols) and recommended care items. Some guideline items are performed within a specific time interval, indicated by a date in the Due column. Items with due dates are ordered, and items without a due date are listed as a reminder to review them with the patient and update their status without having to place orders. Before you use the Care Guidelines panel on the Care Guidelines templates, you must review and ensure that the guidelines that come with the application meet the needs of the practice. For configuration, care guidelines are divided into orderable and recommended items. Using the Care Guidelines Setup practice template, you can set up orderable items. Care Guidelines Overview

You can set up the care guidelines for a patient using the Care Guidelines template. Care Guidelines are made up of care guideline orderables (formerly protocols) and recommended care items with minimal difference in case of clinical workflow. Some guideline items are performed on a specific time interval, which is indicated by a date in the Due column, and others are not. Items with due dates are ordered, while items without a due date are listed as a reminder to the provider to review them with the patient and update their status without having to place orders. For configuration and setup purposes, care guidelines are separated into two types, care guideline orderables and recommended care. Each type of guideline is configured differently. Care Guideline Orderables are those items that are associated with orders in the application; they have CPT® billing and compendium codes. Recommended Care items do not appear in the Orders table. Setting Up Care Guidelines for Use

You can set up the care guidelines for a patient and document the details on the Care Guidelines template. In NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine, the Care Guidelines template is used to handle Health Maintenance and Disease Management functions, including guideline testing and screening, and recommended care. You can open the Care Guidelines template using the Care Guidelines link, in the top navigation tabs of all the main tabbed templates for every specialty. CAUTION: Before using the Care Guidelines template in a clinical setting with patients, content on the template should be carefully reviewed by the individuals who are responsible for maintaining the system. You can update as necessary to meet the needs of the practice. Care Guidelines link is always available on the Care Guidelines template. Condition/Reason Shipped with NextGen Adaptive Content Engine

You can pre-define condition or reason for a patient with NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine. Pre-defined condition or reason shipped with the NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine should be reviewed by the practice before they begin to use Care Guidelines in a clinical setting with patients. Each of the pre-defined condition or reason shipped with the NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine has one or more tests or exams associated with it. Care Guidelines Introduction

You can control the functions for a paitient using the Care Guidelines template. In NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine, the Care Guidelines templates are used to handle health maintenance and disease management functions, including guideline testing and screening, and recommended care. The Care Guidelines templates are available from all the specialty template sets. CAUTION: The Care Guidelines templates are used in a clinical setting with patients. Individuals responsible for maintaining the system need to carefully review the content available on the templates. You can update the content as necessary to meet the needs of the practice. Open the Care Guidelines Template You can open the Care Guidelines template using the Care Guidelines link. Reviewing Recommended Care Shipped with NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine

You can review the recommended care guideline shipped with NextGen Adaptive Content Engine. The practice must review the pre-defined recommended care guidelines shipped with the NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine for content before they begin using care guidelines in a clinical setting with patients. Recommended care guidelines can be modified by clients to meet their needs on the Recommended Care practice template. View a Recommended Care Item and All of Its Elements You can view a recommended care item and all its elements using the Recommended Care practice template. Modify Existing Recommended Care Items You can modify an existing recommended care item using the Recommended Care practice template.
