Blood Pressure Alert Messages

You can configure out of range alert messages to be displayed when a pediatric patient’s blood pressure (BP) is out of the normal range. The BP alerts are based on BP percentile, which is calculated from the patient's age, gender, and the height percentile. Out of range alerts are displayed if the BP percentile is at the 90th and 95th as per the values and guidelines mentioned in the Clinical Practice Guideline for Screening and Management of High Blood Pressure in Children and Adolescents document provided by the American Academy of Pediatrics for gender by age and height percentiles. Update Blood Pressure Alert Preferences

Open the Vital Signs Configuration template. Expand the Adult/Pediatric Alerts panel. To filter the records in the Blood Pressure grid, enter the Age From and Age To fields and then click Search. In the Blood Pressure grid, double-click a row that holds the alert to be modified. The Blood Pressure Alerts template opens. Blood Pressure Alerts Select the patient's sex. To enable entering the height percentile, the BP percentile, and the diastolic alert, select the Add Ht. Percentile and BP Percentile check box. The BP Alert field changes to Systolic Alert alert. For pediatric patients, the system automatically fills Ht Percentile, BP Percentile, and Systolic Alert fields. For adult and pediatric patients, you can manually enter or edit the fields. To modify the age range of the patients you want to set the alert for, enter or update From and To fields. Document Blood Pressure and Pulse

You can measure a patient's blood pressure and pulse. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open a patient's record, and then open an encounter. On Top Toolbar, select Templates . The Select Template window opens. Open the Intake template. In the Vital Signs panel, select Add. The Pediatric [Age] Vital Signs template opens. Enter the blood pressure reading in the Systolic and Diastolic fields within the 0 – 399 range. Note: If the readings are out of the normal range, a message appears. Generate a Diagnosis Report

In this example, you need to generate a report for all patients who have been diagnosed with diabetes and who have blood pressure greater than 140/90 in a period of one year. Open the Report Filter. Select Diagnosis from the Settings List. The Diagnosis window opens. Select to display the Diagnosis Search window. Enter the ICD code 250 in the field. Note: The ICD Code option is the default field. Diagnosis Search Select Search. The list of diagnoses appears. Diagnosis Search Select diabetes mellitus diagnosis description. Select OK. DBP (normal, metric) Growth Percentage Function

Use: Calculates the diastolic blood pressure (DBP) percentile for a patient up to 20 years old compared with other individuals of the same age and gender. This function uses a height value calculated with metric measurements. The percentile is derived from the normal pediatric chart. The blood pressure percentile is returned, but is not graphed. Note: This function calculates percentiles using data from the World Health Organization (WHO) for patients aged 0-24 months and from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for patients aged 2-20 years and for premature infants and Turner syndrome patients. To obtain the accurate calculations for patients born prematurely or with Turner syndrome, you must set up specific template fields and define them in Universal Preferences in the System Administrator application.
