Place a Lab Order with Bypass Orders Module Processing On

Click the Labs tab. The Lab Master template opens. Document An Assessment. If a preferred vendor does not appear or you want to change the vendor, select a vendor. To change the billing type, click the Billing Type field and select an option. The Billing Type field has been filled based on the selected vendor. The default billing type is Third Party; however, if the patient's insurance is not attached to the encounter, the default is Patient. To specify when to perform the test, select the timeframe or date. Select the order priority and the need to fast or call results. Click Place Order on the Lab Master template. Each test appears in the Order grid with a status of ordered, the ordered date, the name of the lab study, and the diagnosis. Select an ordered lab and then click the Lab/Radiology Order Processing link. Handle AOE Questions

Before you begin Before you begin, ensure that you have configured the Order AOE Questions and Order AOE Answers system master files in File Maintenance. For more information, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the latest File Maintenance Master Files Guide for NextGen® Enterprise. You can answer Ask at Order Entry (AOE) questions while ordering laboratory and diagnostic tests through performing entities that require AOE, such as such as Labcorp and Quest Diagnostics® . Open CPOE. Select an order item. Assign a diagnosis to the selected order item. Select the Laboratory or Diagnostic tab. Under the AOE Question Answer section, select the answers to the questions. Note: Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) displays an indication for any tests that are configured for AOE answers. CPOE automatically saves your answers. Tip: If an AOE question is common to multiple order items you have selected, you can provide the answer to any one question and apply it to the re

Orders Master Files Content

The following master files are set up and updated in File Maintenance. Master File Description Order Tests You can manually add or modify tests and their appropriate codes in the Order Tests master file. Tip: Create this table first. Order Components The Order Components master file stores units and reference range data for individual tests. This is useful if using the NextGen results view or if you are entering results manually. Tip: Create this table second. Order Test Favorites You can manually create Order Test Favorites Groups that consist of specific tests used by a provider. Tip: Create this table last. Order Result Notifications In the Order Result Notifications master file you can build a list of users to notify when test results are received. Order Results Sequences You can create the display order in which test results are displayed in the result flow sheet. Set up this table after results are received. Orders Setup and Maintenance

The Orders Module supports both standard lab tests (blood work, urinalysis, etc.) and radiology tests (x-rays, MRIs, etc.). These tests must be selected and defined for your practice. You can use the tests in the NextGen® compendium; you can use the tests from your testing entities (such as Labcorp); or, you can define your own set of tests. Before setting up the NextGen Compendium or Orders Tests, to ensure the most recent compendiums are loaded, your system administrator must run the Order Management Console. The test settings, questions and other definitions for the Orders Module are set up using File Maintenance. The master files store all data needed by the Orders Module, and they must also be properly set up before you can use the Orders Module. You should define these Orders master files first: Order Tests, Order Components, Order Test Favorites, Order AOE Questions and Order AOE Answers. After setting up the required master files, it is recommended that you set up these master

Override AOE Answer

The user can set an AOE Answer pick list or template and field name setting at a test order question level. You first must create the new AOE Question answer, and then assign it to an Order Test question. If you already have an AOE question defined for an order and a pick list (or template field) defined for an AOE question and you want to override the answer values: Open File Maintenance. In Master Files, select EHR. Select to select Order AOE Answers. Select the Open Menu button and then select New to create a new answer list. The Add Order AOE Answers window opens. Note: In this test, we are adding an additional fasting measure, "Last 18 hours" to the ones listed in the original Fasting pick list. Define the System, Code for the answer and enter a Description. Select the Open Menu button to add the list of answer values. Select Next to move to the new answer value in the pick list. Select OK to save the new AOE answers.
