Set Up the Joint Commission Standards

The Joint Commission standards configuration for all NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine templates is found on the Practice Configuration template. If you enable the Joint Commission standards in the Practice Configuration practice template, all fields and links related to the Joint Commission are enabled. When you enable the Joint Commission standards, you need to document and review allergy information before recording any other patient data during the encounter. An alert message appears indicating that allergy information cannot be blank in the specified template. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Select File > System \ Practice Template.The Select Template window opens. Select the Practice tab. Under Show, select All. A list of templates appear. Double-click Practice Configuration.The Practice Configuration template opens. In The Joint Commission Standards row, select the Enable The Joint Commission requirements checkbox. Open the Practice Configuration template. Scroll down the template until you see The Joint Commission Standards section. (Configuration settings are organized in alphabetical order by item or category, with related items grouped together.) Joint Commission Standards Configuration and Ophthalmology

The Joint Commission Standards (formerly known as the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations or JCAHO) configuration setting for all NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine templates is found on the Practice Configuration practice template. This setting should be selected by those practices that are required to adhere to The Joint Commission Standards. When the Enable The Joint Commission Standards check box is selected, all additional fields and links related to The Joint Commission related content found within NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine is enabled. Occasionally, this may affect encounter documentation workflow. Enabling the Joint Commission requirement gives a hard stop to workflow, such that allergies must be documented/updated before anything else is done. Allergies Panel on the ASC - Intake Template

The patient's allergy details documented on the ASC - Scheduling Questions template or ASC - Pre admission template appear in the Allergies panel of the ASC -Intake template. The intake staff reviews and makes the necessary changes to the patient's allergy information as appropriate on the ASC - Intake template. In the Allergies panel on the Intake template, if the patient reports a new allergy since the last visit, select Add.The Adult Allergies template opens. Adult Allergies Select the applicable checkboxes and then select the associated reaction from the corresponding list. Select Save & Close. (Optional) Select the Allergies added today option. If the patient's allergy is not available in the Adult Allergies template, Select the Update button in the Allergies panel to open the Allergies module and document the patient's allergies. Managing Basic Configuration

Before you begin, you can configure some optional settings such as template preferences, template links, and so on. Optimizing basic settings can enhance work outcomes. NextGen Healthcare recommends that you configure the basic settings for ease of use NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Set Up Template Preferences You can configure the default and preferred templates to automatically open the templates for an encounter. You can also configure the workflow after opening an encounter from the Workflow Appointment list. Template Links You can use links to open frequently used templates. Navigation Bar On the navigation bar, you can find customizable links to open additional templates that may not be part of the main workflow. Set Up HPIs to Appear in the Reason for Visit You can set up the History of Present Illness (HPI) to appear in the reason for visit. Document New Allergies for a Patient

In the Allergies panel on the Intake template, if the patient reports a new allergy since the last visit, click Add. The Adult Allergies template opens. Select the applicable check boxes and then select the associated reaction from the corresponding list. Click Save & Close. (Optional) Click the Allergies added today option. If the patient's allergy is not available in the Adult Allergies template, click Update in the Allergies panel to open the Allergies module and document the patient's allergies. In the Allergies panel, the Comment link opens the Allergy Comments template to add any additional information on the documented allergies. You must not enter patient allergies manually in the Allergy Comments template. Enter all allergies in the Allergies module.
