You can view and edit the information displayed in the Care Guidelines panel.
NextGen Healthcare recommends you to be familiar with the Care Guidelines panel on the Care Guidelines Paged View template for ease of use.
Active guidelines listed in the patient guidelines section:
- Patient's Guidelines section in the left pane lists all care guidelines that are currently being followed for the patient. Also called active guidelines.
- Badges next to each active guideline display the number of items for that guideline that are due. An item can belong to more than one care guideline.
For guideline items listed in the panel:
- Orderable items have a checkbox. You must select the checkbox to place an order for the item. The Place Order button remains disabled until you select a checkbox.
- Recommended Care items do not have a checkbox. Instead, they have Goals.
You can determine what guidelines an item belongs and select the name of the item. The guideline it belongs to appears in the Care Guidelines panel. An item can belong to more than one guideline.
The link within parentheses below the guideline item name enables you to open the Modify Intervals and Effective Ages template. On the Modify Intervals and Effective Ages template, you can do the following:
- Change the values for Interval, Start age, and Stop age.
- View the Reference for the guideline item and select the Web button along with its Internet address
- Restore default values for Interval, Start age, and Stop age
Note: You can set up the standard settings on the Care Guidelines Setup practice template. Items that come packaged with NextGen® Enterprise EHR have standard settings which you can alter if you want.
When a guideline item is due:
- The date under the Next Due field appears in red font with a yellow alert icon.
- The Status field displays due.
- The Last Completed field displays the date the item was last completed or reviewed, if the item has never been completed, the field is blank.
- When results are manually entered in the Order module, the collected date is used for the Last Completed date and to calculate the Next Due date.
Each guideline item has a Comments text field associated with it that holds 100 characters. Text entered here carry forward until they are manually removed.
Note: When a guideline item has been completed, it no longer appears in the Care Guidelines panel on the Care Guidelines Paged View or grid view templates. To view completed guidelines on the Care Guidelines History template, select the Care Guidelines History link.
For active guidelines, items appear in the following order:
- Items that are due, in alphabetical order
- Items that are not yet due until a date in the future
- Items that are declined (due date will still appear)
- Items that are excluded, the Next due date is blank
Page navigation toolbar buttons are located at the bottom of the panel, and tell you what page you are viewing and how many pages of guideline items are listed. All items for an active care guideline appear in the Care Guidelines panel on the Care Guidelines Paged View template, whether they are due or not or being actively followed.
The Add Orderable link enables you to add an orderable item to the list using the personalized orderables functionality. Personalized orders allow you to follow an individual item without having to activate an entire care guideline.
The Add/Update Reminders link allows you to add or update a personal reminder to yourself about the patient using the reminders functionality.
- Reminders allow you to add a text note with a due date.
- Reminders appear sorted with other guideline items by due date.
- This functionality allows you to quickly see information that you wanted to remember about a patient.
You can view historical information about care guideline items for the patient in a summary data grid on the Care Guidelines History template.
- Guideline items that are completed and no longer due are viewable on this template. These items do not appear in the Care Guidelines panel.
- To filter the historical information appeared in the grid by status, you can select Filter by status from the list.
- To update the information, select a row in the grid, and then select the Edit button.
