Intervention Equivalents Overview

You can select a guideline for a patient and configure Intervention Equivalents. The Intervention Equivalents section is where the different descriptions and CPT® codes for the same test are configured. This function enables you to use the name or the code they prefer, and the system is able to recognize what it is. Configured intervention equivalents are global, and can be used throughout the system. All of the different ways a guideline item or test can be named are referred to as synonyms or aliases. The Intervention Equivalents section enables you to configure equivalents for the selected test. For example, breast MRI may have two different CPT® codes, or may have different descriptions when performed at different labs. The equivalents get added to the Intervention code equivalent data set in the Data Sets Setup practice template. Pre-requisites to Use Document Types to Satisfy a Guideline

You can set up the pre-requisites to use Document Types to satisfy a care guideline. Before you begin To use the document types to satisfy a guideline, you must do the following configurations in the File Maintenance > Document Management Master Files - System to be able to link guidelines or tests to the scanned document types in the Document Types/ Codifications section in the Interventions/Test Equivalents/Descriptions panel on the Care Guidelines Setup template to satisfy the guidelines. Configure the required document categories. Configure the date of service. Configure the required document types with the attributes, security rights and link them to the document categories. Link and then mark the date of service as required to the document type. Link Guidelines or Tests to Scanned Document Types

You can link a guideline or test to a scanned document type to satisfy a guideline. When you scan a patient’s document into the document type with a date of service, NextGen® Enterprise EHR recognizes the date as the completed date and automatically satisfies the guideline. NextGen® Enterprise EHR also recalculates and displays a due date of the guideline on the runtime Care Guidelines template. Open File Maintenance. In Document Management Master Files - System, complete the prerequisite configurations. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. On the Practice tab, select the All option. Remove Document Types Linked to Guidelines or Tests

You can remove the link between a document type and a care guideline or test in the Document Types panel. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. From File, select System \ Practice Template.The Select Template window opens. On the Practice tab, select the All option. Select Care Guideline Setup, and then select OK.The Care Guideline Setup practice template opens. In the Manage Groups and Options panel, select the Enable Document Types to satisfy guidelines checkbox. Expand the Interventions/Test Equivalent Codes/Descriptions panel and select Document Types/ Codifications section. Interventions Test Equivalent Codes or Descriptions

You can define additional descriptions and codes in the Interventions or Test Equivalent Codes or Descriptions panel. The Interventions/Test Equivalent Codes/Descriptions panel is available on the Care Guidelines Setup practice template. There are three sections on the Interventions/Test Equivalent Codes/Descriptions panel where you can define additional descriptions and codes for orderable items that can be used with care guidelines: Intervention Equivalents File Maintenance Mappings Document Types / Codifications The data entered on this panel is used to map a test name used by a practice to a description or code used by an outside location or vendor. CAUTION: It is the best practice to add tests, along with codes or descriptions as needed for mapping instead of modifying or deleting those that come shipped with NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine. You can set up the orderable items for a patient associated with orders in the NextGen Adaptive Content Engine. The Orderable items (formerly protocols), are associated with orders in the NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine, they have CPT® billing and compendium codes. Define Guideline Reasons & Auto Application Enables you to define guidelines for a condition or disease. Interventions / Orders Setup Enables you to set up lab tests, diagnostic studies, and examinations (orderable items) for a guideline.
