Document an Order for Diagnostic Studies
You can place a diagnostic study order with Bypass Order Module Processing turned on.
You can place a diagnostic study order from the Diagnostic Studies template.
Note: If Bypass Order Module Processing is not in effect, the Lab/Radiology Order Processing link appears on the Diagnostic Studies template. After you place an order, you must select the Order Module Processing link to choose the vendor and submit the order for processing.
- Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
- Open a patient's record, and then open an encounter.
- Open the Intake template, select the specialty as Family Practice and the visit type as Office Visit, and then select My Plan.
- Select the Diagnostics tab.
The Diagnostic Studies template opens.
- Select an assessment from the Today's Assessments grid.
The diagnosis details linked to the assessment appear in the corresponding fields. You can update them as required.Note: You can select Add or Edit to update the assessment details.
- Select the vendor, billing type, and order priority details.
Note: If you select Labcorp or Quest and your practice has configured the Patient Service Center (PSC) hold setting for these vendors on the Practice Configuration template, the application selects the Quest/Labcorp PSC Hold checkbox.
- In the Orders section, select the diagnostic links.
The selected diagnostic study and code appear in the Diagnostic study fields.
- To associate multiple diagnoses with orders for diagnostic studies, select the Associate Diagnoses.
You must add additional diagnoses to the order before the order is processed.
- To place the order in the Orders module without sending it to the interface, select the Save to Module but Don't Send to Interface queue checkbox.
- Select Place Order.
The order appears in the Order Hold grid, and the Select Task Recipients template opens.
- Enter the associated tasks and recipients for the order, and select OK.
The order appears in the Diagnostic Studies Ordered This Visit grid with the status of ordered.Note: If the diagnostic studies are not mapped to the selected vendor, an alert appears.
- Optional: If required, select a different vendor or map the diagnostic studies in File Maintenance.
- Select Save & Close.

You can enter the patient’s insurance information and policy number if they have been previously entered into the system using the Diagnostics Studies template. - Associate Multiple Diagnoses with an Order
