You can create a guideline for a patient on the Care Guideline Setup template.
Before you begin
You must select the
Auto-Apply checkbox to make the
Gender,
Start age,
Stop age, and
Diagnosis group fields available. Otherwise, you must manually apply the guideline to patients if you choose to follow it. This can be done during encounter workflow. A guideline with
Auto-Apply selected is not applied to a patient when a diagnosis has the
Inactive or
Resolved status.
- Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
- From File, select System \ Practice Template.
The Select Template window opens.
- On the Practice tab, select the All option.
- Select Care Guideline Setup, and then select OK.
The Care Guideline Setup practice template opens.
- Expand the Define Guideline Reasons & Auto Application panel, in Guideline Condition/Reason, enter a name for the condition or reason for the guideline.
- In the Reason Type field, select any from the list.
- In the Birth Sex field, select any from the list.
Note: A gender must be selected or else the guideline will not appear. F, M, and O apply the guideline only to female, male, and to both female and male patients respectively.
- In the Start age field, enter the age from when the guideline should apply and start to be followed.
- If the patient is younger than the start age, the guideline displays the due date, even if it is far into the future.
- If no start age is entered, the guideline is followed for a patient regardless of age.
- In the Stop age field, enter the age from when the guideline should no longer apply and stop being followed.
- If the patient is older than the stop age, the guideline does not show as due.
- If no stop age is entered, the guideline continues to be followed for a patient regardless of age.
- In the Diagnosis group field, enter a diagnosis group that is associate with the guideline.
Note: All diagnosis codes defined within the selected group are associated with the guideline.
- Select the Auto-Apply checkbox to apply the guideline automatically to all patients that meet the criteria for Birth Sex, Start age, Stop age, and Diagnosis group.
Auto-Apply is an optional checkbox.
Note: In performance lab testing, the Auto-Apply functionality had shown a more significant impact on performance when more than five Conditions are set to yes, but much is dependent on server capabilities and user load.
- Select Add.
The guideline appears in the grid.
Note: If you attempt to add a guideline condition or reason that duplicates one that already exists, an application message appears. You can select OK and change the value for guideline condition or reason and try to add it again. To create a guideline using an existing guideline as the base guideline, you can select the guideline listed in the data grid. Details listed in the grid for the guideline fill in the fields above the grid. These values can be modified following the steps listed above. You must change the value (name of the condition or reason) displayed in the Guideline Condition/Reason field before you can add the guideline.
