Using Virtual Private Network Connections

Using Virtual Private Network Connections Using Virtual Private Network Connections A virtual private network (VPN) enables you to create a secure channel of communication (or "tunnel") over a public network, such as the internet. Security is provided through authentication to ensure that the entity connecting is authorized and through encryption to protect the data in transit. Select Services > VPN Connections to create the connection. The VPN service uses certificate-based SSL authentication. Therefore, each VPN user that you configure has a unique certificate generated and assigned to them. When a user attempts to connect to the service, their VPN client must present a valid certificate for the VPN to be established. The VPN service uses the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) cipher algorithm in cipher block chaining (CBC) mode with a 256-bit key. VPN connection management enables you to terminate client-based VPN connections directly on your Mirth® Appliance by NextGen Healthcare.

Manage the Control Panel

The Control Panel Settings window enables you to personalize the Mirth® Appliance by NextGen Healthcare. Select Applications > Applications Control. Select Manage to open the Control Panel Settings window. Control Panel Settings window Enter a unique Appliance Name to identify the appliance. CAUTION: It is very important to set the Appliance Name, especially in cases where there is more than one appliance on the same network or managed by the same person. If necessary, set the user inactivity timeout period, the name of your company, and the name, title, and contact number for the appliance’s administrator. In the VPN instructions sent to VPN users, the administrator information is included as the administrative contact in case of problems with the VPN. Select Update to save the settings. Edit or Delete an Existing VPN Connection

You can edit or delete an existing connection. Select Services > VPN Connections. Select the linked name in the list on the VPN Connection Management window. To edit the user, you can update the IP address or download an updated client software bundle to send to the user To delete the user, select Delete, and then confirm you want to delete the connection. Deleting a user immediately revokes the digital certificate and disconnects them from the system. The number of VPN users is limited by the size of the private network defined. The default private network configuration allows for 63 VPN connections. The number of concurrent connections is only limited by the processing capacity of your Mirth® Appliance by NextGen Healthcare. Download a VPN Client Software Bundle

After you add a connection, your next step is to download a VPN client software bundle to send to the user. Download VPN Client Bundle window On the Download VPN Software Bundle window, select the VPN user’s platform (Windows or Linux), and then enter the public server address and a password for encrypting the software bundle’s contents. The Public Server Address field is the IP address that the client uses to connect to the appliance. If the user is connecting over an existing private network, they may be able to connect to the actual IP address of the appliance (this is the default value). Most likely, the user is on the other side of a firewall and it is necessary to give them an external IP address. You can attempt to look up the external IP address of the appliance using the Detect External IP Address button. Get Started with V1000 Virtual

Use the virtual appliance image to deploy to your V1000 Virtual. Before you begin You must have some version of VMware® virtualization software already installed, such as VMware Workstation Player™, VMware Fusion®, or VMware Server™. You can set up the Mirth® Appliance by NextGen Healthcare by using a V1000 Virtual appliance. Use the virtual appliance image to deploy to your V1000 Virtual.If you received a DVD from Mirth® Connect by NextGen Healthcare with the virtual appliance image file, the file is located in the base directory. If the image file was delivered electronically, it is located in the outgoing directory of the Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) server. Import the virtual machine image into the VMware virtualization application that is running. Consult the documentation on your VMware product for importing and converting the virtual appliance image.
