Bridging Disconnected Network Segments

A Mirth® Appliance by NextGen Healthcare with multiple Ethernet interfaces can be used as a message firewall to bridge otherwise disconnected networks. For security reasons, port forwarding is disabled, and network traffic cannot automatically flow from one interface to the other. However, when a channel sends a message to an address that is in a network directly connected to a local interface of the appliance, the preference is for the appliance to use that interface.

This setup has the effect of using channels to granularly control the flow of message traffic between any two networks.
