UB/Value Codes Tab

UB

Each field on the UB / Value Codes tab is labeled with a number (39, 40, or 41) followed by a letter (a, b, c, or d). The value codes that are entered in these fields will have an associated dollar amount or unit value associated with it that is entered in the field to the right of the numbered fields. When a value code is entered in one of the numbered fields and you tab to the associated field to the right, the application automatically converts the field to accept a dollar value or a unit value. If a dollar value is the required entry, the field displays with $0.00. If a unit value is the required entry, the field displays blank.

All the fields on this tab correspond to the Field Locators on the UB claim form. For example, the value code and associated dollar amount or unit value that is entered in the 39a field will populate the first line, which is considered line a, of Field Locator 39 on the UB04 claim form. Field 39b would correspond with the second line, which is line b, of Field Locator 39 and field 39c would correspond with the third line, which is line c, of Field Locator 39 on the UB04 claim form.

The following example shows the top half of a UB04 claim form and lines (a), (b), (c), and (d) of the value codes field.
UB/Value Code

The UB / Value Codes tab is used differently, depending on the type of user.

  • If you are a Regular UB user, then you can use the fields on this tab to manually enter the value codes and the associated dollar amount or unit value that you want to print on the UB04 claim form. Select the drop-down menu to display the list of value codes.
    • The value codes and associated dollar amount or unit value can be entered in any order. If you delete a value code and date from a field, any populated field below it is also deleted.
  • If you are a Recurring Billing UB user and you want to use the automated UB claims process, these fields are automatically populated by the application and should not be changed.
    • The value codes and associated dollar amount or unit value that are automatically entered in these fields are entered in the order that the fields display on the screen. These value codes and associated dollar amount or unit value are automatically carried over to subsequent encounters. Any value code that is changed or manually entered is not carried over. If you delete a value code and associated dollar amount or unit value from a field, any populated field below it is also deleted. The value code fields that were changed are no longer automated.
    • The value codes that populate these fields are linked to the revenue codes that are attached to the service items.
    • The revenue codes that are used for the automated UB claims process and have the appropriate linked value codes are 420 – 429, 430 – 439, and 440 – 449.
    • The value codes that are linked to the revenue codes for automation, which are also automated and will carry over to subsequent encounters, include value codes 50, 51, and 52.
