Service Locations within a Practice

When your practice has multiple service locations, you can select them on the Add/Modify Practice Information window. If you want to add new locations, you must create them in the Locations master file.

These service locations use the same preferences and libraries that the main practice uses. They also have the same Tax ID number as the Practice. As a general rule, if you have a location that uses different libraries and preferences, then it must be set up as its own practice.

Why does the location make a difference?

Practices with multiple-state locations must create claims based on the service location state where the patient had the encounter. The claim state, which is based on the service location state, drives the specific business rules in determining how a claim should be edited, printed, and submitted.
