Practice Preference for Required Encounter-Level Program
In a practice, a program may be set to be required for an encounter for specific locations in the Create Encounter window for new encounters and in the Encounter Maintenance window for existing encounters to more accurately track encounters by programs.
For more information on setting a program to be required for an encounter for specific locations, go to the NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the Behavioral Health Billing User Guide for NextGen Enterprise PM , and then see Set the Required Encounter-Level Programs for Specific Locations section.
When the encounter-level program is set to be required for specific locations on Programs preference in the Practice Preferences window, then one of the following validation scenarios occur.
- If a patient has not been enrolled in any program, and the same location is selected in the Encounter Maintenance window or the Create Encounter window and on the Programs preference in the Practice Preferences window:
- The user can create an encounter, but cannot update an existing encounter without assigning a program.
- If a patient has been enrolled in a program, and the same location is selected in the Encounter Maintenance window or the Create Encounter window and on the Programs preference in the Practice Preferences window:
- The user cannot create an encounter or update the existing one without assigning a program.
If a program is required for an encounter and the user does not have access to the program, the following occurs when the user selects the Last Enc button:
- If a program is associated with the last encounter for the current patient, then that program is copied, and the user can save the encounter.
- If a program is not associated with the last encounter for the current patient, then the Programs field remains blank, and the user cannot create an encounter.
