Overriding the Default Hold Date

The UB functionality to hold bills until month end overrides the Practice Preferences hold date for Medicare claims when the encounter qualifies for both hold dates. There are three different combinations of conditions that determine which hold date (Practice Preference or UB) applies to an encounter. The following list explains those conditions:

• The Hold Date filed located on the UB tab of the Encounter Maintenance window overrides the Practice Preferences hold date when the following conditions are set up:
  • A UB location is set up and attached to a Medicare claim type payer (an Enhanced UB user).
  • The Default Hold Date check box on the UB tab of the Modify Payer Information window is enabled.
  • The rendering provider for the encounter is a selected UB rendering provider in the Rendering field on the UB tab of the Modify Payer Information window.
• The Practice Preferences hold date, which is located on the Billing & Collections tab of the Encounter Maintenance window, overrides the UB hold date when the following conditions are set up:
  • A UB location is set up and attached to a Medicare claim type payer (an Enhanced UB user).
  • The Default Hold Date check box on the UB tab of the Modify Payer Information window is enabled.
  • The rendering provider for the encounter is not a selected UB rendering provider in the Rendering field on the UB tab of the Modify Payer Information window.
• The Practice Preferences hold date, which is located on the Billing & Collections tab of the Encounter Maintenance window, overrides the UB hold date when the following conditions are set up:
  • A UB location is set up and attached to a Medicare claim type payer (an Enhanced UB user).
  • The Default Hold Date check box on the UB tab of the Modify Payer Information window is disabled.
  • The rendering provider for the encounter is a selected UB rendering provider in the Rendering field on the UB tab of the Modify Payer Information window.
