The Enable In Progress billing status option in Practice Preferences > Encounters activates specific features and functionality in NextGen Enterprise PM as described below. Enable In Progress Billing

Access NextGen® Enterprise PM. From the Admin menu, select Preferences, and then Practice. The Practice Preferences window opens. From the Preference List, select Encounters. To enable In Progress Billing for the practice, select the Enable In Progress billing status check box. A prompt appears stating that allowing 'In Progress' status cannot be undone once it is turned on. To continue and enable this feature, select Yes. Enable In Progress Billing Status

When the In Progress billing status is enabled, the status and all related features become available in NextGen® Enterprise EHR and NextGen® Enterprise PM. Note: Once you turn this feature on, you cannot turn it off. In the Encounters Practice Preferences, select the Enable In Progress billing status check box. A message displays so you can confirm that you want to enable the billing status. Select OK. Default New Encounters to In Progress Status

When the Enable In Progress billing status option is enabled in Practice Preferences > Encounters, you can enable additional options to ensure that new encounters created in the practice automatically default to In Progress status. Access NextGen® Enterprise PM. From the Admin menu, select Preferences, and then Practice. The Practice Preferences window opens. From the Preferences List, select Encounters. Enable In Progress Billing. CAUTION: Once In Progress Billing has been enabled, it cannot be disabled. It should only be enabled when needed. To default all new encounters created in the practice to In Progress status, select the Default all new encounters to In Progress check box. Defaulting New Encounters to In Progress Status based on Program

If your practice uses In Progress Billing in NextGen® Enterprise PM, you can enable functionality to automatically default new encounters to In Progress status based on program. If the Default all new encounters to In Progress option is enabled in Practice Preferences > Encounters and specific programs are defined in the Limit to Valid Programs field, the In Progress check box on the Create Encounter window gets checked automatically when one of those programs is selected in the Program field.
