Enabling and Requiring UDS Fields

Enabling UDS Fields When UDS fields are enabled, the UDS tab displays on the Add/Modify Patient Information window in NextGen® Enterprise EHR and NextGen® Enterprise PM. Users can then access the tab to select the appropriate UDS values for each person/patient. UDS fields are enabled at the enterprise level. Therefore, if enabled, the UDS tab displays on the Add/Modify Patient Information window in all practices within the enterprise. Requiring UDS Fields UDS fields can be set up to be required at either the enterprise level or at the practice level. If required at the enterprise level, users in all practices in the enterprise must enter data in the UDS fields for all persons (globes) and all patients (charts) when the demographic record is created for a person/patient. Require UDS Fields at the Practice Level

Access NextGen® Enterprise PM. Enable UDS fields for the enterprise. From the Admin menu, select Preferences, and then Practice. The Practice Preferences window opens. From the Preference List on the left, do one of the following: If you require UDS fields when appointments are scheduled, select Appt Scheduling. If you require UDS fields when charts are created, select Chart. To require specific UDS fields, select the check box for those fields In the Required Fields section. A green check mark indicates the field is required. Required Fields To save changes and close the window, select OK. Note: The UDS fields are available for selection in Practice Preferences in Appt Scheduling or Chart only when the Display person UDS fields check box is selected in Enterprise Preferences > UDS. If specific fields are set as required in Enterprise Preferences, then they are automatically required in Practice Preferences and the requirement cannot be removed. UDS Fields

In NextGen® Enterprise PM, additional fields can be enabled to capture information on patients that is required for the UDS report. When the fields are enabled, a UDS tab appears on the Add Patient Information and Modify Patient Information windows. Add Patient Information In each UDS field, you can then select the appropriate value for each patient. The values available for selection are from the corresponding master list table in File Maintenance as outlined below. Enable UDS Fields for the Enterprise

Access NextGen® Enterprise PM. From the Admin menu, select Preferences, and then Enterprise. The Enterprise Preferences window opens. Select the UDS tab. To enable UDS fields on the Patient Information window for all practices in the enterprise, select the Display person UDS fields check box. UDS Tab

The UDS fields are only used for UDS (Uniform Data System) reporting. The fields display in NextGen® Enterprise PM on the Patient Information window only when they are enabled in Enterprise Preferences. You can also require that users enter information in these fields. Managing UDS Information

The UDS tab appears only when the Display person UDS fields option is enabled in Enterprise Preferences, UDS. On the tab, Community Health Centers can enter information for a person or patient that is used on the Uniform Data System (UDS) report, and Indian Health Systems can enter information needed for their reports. In Enterprise Preferences, each UDS field can be set up to be required for all persons and patients when a demographic record is created. In Practice Preferences, each UDS field can be set up to be required either for all persons and patients when an appointment is scheduled, or for all patients when a chart is created.
