Enabling UDS Fields
When UDS fields are enabled, the UDS tab displays on the Add/Modify Patient Information window in NextGen® Enterprise EHR and NextGen® Enterprise PM. Users can then access the tab to select the appropriate UDS values for each person/patient.
UDS fields are enabled at the enterprise level. Therefore, if enabled, the UDS tab displays on the Add/Modify Patient Information window in all practices within the enterprise.

  Requiring UDS Fields
UDS fields can be set up to be required at either the enterprise level or at the practice level.
If required at the enterprise level, users in all practices in the enterprise must enter data in the UDS fields for all persons (globes) and all patients (charts) when the demographic record is created for a person/patient.
If required at the practice level, there are two points at which users in the practice must enter data in the UDS fields; either when an appointment is scheduled for a person/patient, or when the chart is created for a patient.
  Note:

    - If certain UDS fields are made required, an appropriate item should be created in the corresponding master list table to use when the field does not apply to a person or patient. For example, if tribal affiliation is required, a master list item such as No Affiliation can be created and used when a person or patient has no tribal affiliation.

    - The Consent To Treat check box and the Consent To Treat Date field on the UDS tab cannot be made required.

    - Head of household will only be required when users modify a patient chart. When the Head of Household field is required, users must first select a head of household before they are able to enter family information.

    - The Homeless Status field can also be made required at the encounter level. To require homeless status for all encounters, select the Require Homeless Status check box in .

    - To require the Race and Ethnicity fields at the enterprise level, select the Require Always column in .
