Add Event Chain Options

Option	Description
Event Sequence Matters	Note: This option is selected by default. You can select this option if the Member Events must be scheduled in the order defined within the setup of the event chain. You must clear this option, if the Member Events can be scheduled in any order.
Allow Events to Span Multiple Days	You can select this option if the Member Events can be scheduled across multiple days. The interval between events can be setup using Minutes, Hours or Days. If the Member Events must be scheduled on the same day, then do not select this option. The interval between events can be setup using Minutes or Hours. By default, this option is not selected.
Linked Events	You can select this option if the appointments for all Member Events should be checked-in simultaneously and linked to the same encounter. If each Member Event should be check-in separately and linked to a separate encounter, then do not select this option. By default, this check box is selected.
Allow Event Duration Overrides	You can select this option to help you override or change the duration of Member Events if needed while scheduling appointments for the event chain. If the duration of Member Events should not be changed, then do not select this check box. By default, this check box is selected.

Configure Event Chain Intervals

An Interval is defined for events within an event chain to determine the time between the previous and next event in the chain. The interval specifies when the next event in the chain starts. For example, you can have a two-event chain with an interval of 15 minutes applied at the end time of the first event. Therefore, the start time of the second event equals the end time of the first event plus 15 minutes. Note: In the Appointment Book window, you can override the appointment date and start time for any event in the event chain except the first event. To do so, double-click an event in the Resources field on the Add Appointment window. In the Specify Date/Time for Event fields, select the desired date and time for the event. Add or Modify an Event Chain

In NextGen® Enterprise PM, select Admin > Scheduling Admin. Note: When you select the Enable Enterprise Appointment Scheduling option in Practice Preferences window, the Scheduling Admin option on the Admin menu displays the following two options: Enterprise Practice The Scheduling Administration window opens. Select the Event Chains tab. Do one of the following: To add a event chain, select the open menu button, and select New. To modify an existing event chain, select the event chain in the list, select the open menu button, and select Open. The Add Event Chain or Edit Event Chain window opens. In the Event Chain field, enter a name for the event chain. The name appears in the Event Chain field on the Add Appointment or Edit Appointment window when you schedule appointment for the event chain. This is a mandatory field. In the Short field, enter a 1 - 3 character description for the event chain. In the Details field, enter any additional notes for the event chain. The notes appear in

Create an Event Chain On-the-Fly

If an event chain that you need does not exist, then you can create an event chain on-the-fly when scheduling an appointment. Open the Add Appointment window or the Appointment Search Ahead window. Select the open menu button next to the Event/Event Chain field and select Create Event Chain. The On-The-Fly Event Chain window opens. Select events from the Available Events list and select the arrow to move them to the Member Events list. If you want to add the on-the-fly event chain to scheduling administration for future use, enter a name in the Event Chain field and enter a 1 - 3 character abbreviated name in the Short field. Schedule an Event Chain

Multiple events grouped together are called an Event Chain. Each individual event within an event chain is called an event chain member. You can schedule the events in a defined sequence. Note: When you create an event chain in Scheduling Administration, you must specify if the event chain needs to be scheduled sequentially or the sequence does not matter. Open NextGen® Enterprise PM. From the main toolbar, select the ApptBook button. The Appointment Book window opens. In the Daily, Weekly Schedule or Multi-View tab, select the resource, date, and time slot for the first event in the event chain. Do one of the following: From the Appointment Book toolbar, select the Add Appt button. Right-click the time slot and, select New from the menu. Double-click the time slot. The Add Appointment window opens. In the Event/Event Chain field, select the desired event chain. Note: Event chains appear with a chain link icon. Event Chains Tab - Sched Admin

On the Event Chains tab, you can define groupings of events or appointment types that must be scheduled together as a series of appointments. You can use an event chain to schedule multiple appointments for a patient simultaneously instead of scheduling each appointment separately. The individual events within an event chain are referred to as event chain members. Event chain members can be scheduled with the same or different resources, within minutes, hours, or days of each other. The event chain setup determines whether the event chain members must be scheduled in a specific sequence or scheduled in a best fit sequence. Note: Specific parameters for each member event, such as resource duration overrides, default resources, appointment limits, SIM members, valid locations, and so on are defined on the Events tab of the Scheduling Administration window. Appointment Search Ahead Search Criteria

You can select multiple parameters in the Search Criteria section in the Appointment Search Ahead window to find available timeslots for new appointments. For example, select an event, a service location, a resource, and an appointment date range. The following table describes the fields that are available in the Search Criteria section of the Appointment Search Ahead window: Field Description Event You must select an event or an event chain for the search. This is a mandatory field. When you select an event chain, the specified search criteria apply only to the first event in the event chain. You can only specify the date and time only for the first event in the event chain. Note: Event chains are listed before the events, when you select the Display event chains before events option in the Appt Search/Waitlist tab on the Appointment Scheduling Preferences window.
