Set Up Clinical Options for a Program

On the Add/Modify Program Information window, the Clinical tab enables you to define system-level parameters for the program. These settings apply to all practices using the program.

The tab includes information that may be used for clinical purposes in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. For example, in a Behavioral Health practice, if a NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine template is used to select a program for a patient, then any clinical information configured for that program may populate the template in NextGen® Enterprise EHR.

Except for Program Category, information on this tab is not used in NextGen® Enterprise PM.

  1. Access File Maintenance.
  2. Select System Master Files, then PM, and then Programs.
    The Programs List window opens.
  3. From the list, select a program and then do one of the following:
    • Select Open Menu and then select Open.
    • Right-click and then select Open.
    • Double-click to open the program.
The Modify Program Information window opens.
  4. Select the Clinical tab.

  5. In the Program Category field, select a category for the program. This can be used to group multiple programs into the same category.
When enrolling a patient in a program, if you select a Program Category first, the list of Programs available for selection is limited to only those that are linked to that category. If you select a Program first, the Program Category defaults to the category linked to that program.
  6. In the State field, select a state for the program.
  7. In the Category Code field, enter a free-text code for the program.

For example, some states may have specific category codes they use for their state-level programs.

  8. In the Next Review Interval section, enter a number of Days, Months or Years to indicate the interval after which patients in the program should next be reviewed.

The minimum value is 0 (default) and the maximum value is 100.

  9. To save changes and close the window, select OK.
