Diagnosis Categories

The Diagnosis Categories master file enables you to group diagnosis codes into a category that you define. The categories provide flexibility by allowing: Administrators to restrict which practices have access to the diagnosis categories. Administrators to specify that a diagnosis category is only for use by NextGen® Enterprise EHR, NextGen® Enterprise PM, or both. Administrators to associate a provider with one or more diagnosis categories in the Categories tab of the Providers master file. Assign Access to Practices for Diagnosis Categories

Even though the system-level master files are enterprise-wide, you might not want all practices to have access to every record. You can limit who has access to a diagnosis category through Practice Access. Each diagnosis category must be assigned to at least one practice. In File Maintenance, select Master Files > System > Diagnosis Categories. The Diagnosis Categories List window opens. Right-click the applicable diagnosis category from the list, and then select Practice Access. The ICD Category Master Access by Practice window opens. If the diagnosis category is new, only the current practice is selected. Select the practices that will have access to this diagnosis category. At least one practice must be selected. Note: To prevent specific practices from accessing the provider, clear the check boxes next to the practices in the list. Select OK. Parent topic: Diagnosis Categories

From the Master Files - System list, select Diagnosis Categories. The Diagnosis Categories List window opens. To add a new diagnosis category, select Open Menu , then select New. To add an ICD code and description select Open Folder . The ICD Codes window opens. To add a code to the category, select the code in the Available list, then select the Include . The code moves from the Available list to the Included list. If necessary, select either 09 or 10 in the Show field to display only ICD9

Diagnosis Categories

The diagnosis search window displays diagnosis categories that are associated with the provider, if available. If there are no provider categories, diagnosis categories associated with the practice appear. Categories can be associated with NextGen® Enterprise EHR or NextGen® Enterprise PM so that only relevant categories display. By default, if the ShowEPMCategories flag is set to False, the system loads practice categories that have Show in EHR set to Y. This flag is set to Y by default for categories that existed before NextGen® Enterprise EHR, 5.8. If the ShowEPMCategories flag is set to True, the system loads practice categories that have Show in EPM set to Y. Note: You cannot change the name of diagnosis categories or their display order from this window. The name and order are defined in the File Maintenance application under Master Files for Diagnosis Categories.
