Configure Allergy Reactions

The Allergy Reactions master file contains a list of SNOMED®-codified and user-defined allergic reactions. You can enter a specific reaction that a patient might have as the result of an allergy. From the Master Files - System list, select Allergy Reactions. The Allergy Reactions List window opens. Reactions marked as Common are listed at the top. SNOMED-codified reactions list in bold, their SNOMED code appears, and they cannot be modified. Note: When users are selecting reactions in NextGen® Enterprise EHR, they do no see an indication whether a reaction is SNOMED-codified. To add a reaction, scroll to the bottom of the list, and in the last blank row, enter a Description for the allergy reaction. To modify a reaction, edit the Description for the allergy reaction. You cannot modify the descriptions for SNOMED-codified reactions. If you expect to frequently use a reaction, select Common. The common reactions will be listed first when users want to select a reaction in NextGen® Enterp

Add an Allergy Reaction and Severity

You can document an allergy reaction and severity for the allergy. Reaction-severity details appear wherever allergies display. Although allergy reactions and severities are SNOMED® codified, you can create user-defined reactions but not user-defined severities. Contact your system administrator for more information. From the Medication Allergies module, in the Reactions section, select Add. The Add Reaction (Severity) window opens. Reactions marked as common list first. Begin typing the name of a reaction or scroll through the list of reactions, and then select a reaction. Unknown is located at the top of the Common Reactions list. Specify a severity of the reaction. Select Add. The allergy reaction and severity appear in the Reactions section. You can add up to five allergy reaction and severity. Document Patient Allergies

You can document the allergy details of a patient. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. On the Intake template, in the Allergies panel, select Add.The Adult Allergies template opens. Adult Allergies template Select the applicable allergen checkboxes, and then select the associated reaction from the resulting list. Note: If the patient's allergy is not available on the Allergy Reactions template, you can close the Allergy Reactions template. You can select Save & Close to return to the Allergies panel. With the allergen selected, to open the Allergies module and document the patient's allergies, you can select Update. Select Save & Close. To enter comments about the allergen, select the Comment link and enter the details on the Allergy Comments window. CAUTION: You must not enter patient allergies manually on the Allergy Comments window. You must enter all allergies on the Allergies module. Allergies - User Defined

The Allergies master file contains a list of user-defined allergies. From the Master Files - System list, select Allergies. The Allergies - User Defined List window opens. Do one of the following: To add a new item, select open menu , and then select New. To modify an existing item, select the item in the list, select open menu , and then select Open. You can also double-click to open the item. The Add/Modify Allergy Information window opens. Enter the abbreviation for an allergy in the Allergy Key field. This field allows for a maximum of 8 characters. Enter the full description of the allergy in the Allergy Description field. Enter any additional information for the allergy in the Note field. If you want to hide the item in the list, select the Hide check box. Select Next to add another item or select OK to return to the Allergies - User Defined List window.
