Edit an Allergy Reaction and Severity

From the Medication Allergies module > Reactions section, select a reaction, and then select Edit. The Edit Reaction Severities window opens. Select a reaction, and then select a different severity. Note: Alert messages do not appear when you are updating the reaction severity. If the provider does not select a new severity value, the patient’s chart retains its current value. If necessary, select another reaction, and change its severity. An alert icon (asterisk) displays next to the allergy that contains the non-supported severity or hidden values. If applicable, select a new severity value for the unsupported severity. Select Cancel if you do not want to update to the new supported severity values. Note: The existing unsupported severity values are retained in the patient’s chart. However, they are mapped to the supported values while exporting to the C-CDA. Add a Criticality

You can document criticality values per allergy in the Criticality field. You can select Low, High, or Unable to Assess from the list. The selected criticality value displays in the Description (Criticality) column in the Medication Allergies grid. Open the Medication Allergies module for the selected patient. Select the High, Low, or Unable to Assess criticality value. The Criticality value appears in the grid. Note: If you select Unable to Assess the criticality value does not appear in the grid. Add a Medication Allergy to a Patient Chart

Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open the Medication Allergies module for the selected patient. If the patient has any existing allergies, select Clear. The values in all the fields are cleared. Note: Clearing the fields prevents you from editing an existing allergy. To search and filter an allergy, do the following: Select the search icon next to Allergy. The NextGen - Allergy Selection window opens. Allergy Selection Select one of the following filters from the Filter list: Contains Searches for allergies that contain with the search criteria. Ends With Searches for allergies that end with the search criteria. Ingredient Searches from the list of drug ingredients, such as Iodine or Bentonite. Medication Name searches from the list of medication allergies, such as cefazolin with codeine. Allergen Group Searches from the list of allergens, such as lithium derivatives or ester type anesthetics. Configure Allergy Reactions

The Allergy Reactions master file contains a list of SNOMED®-codified and user-defined allergic reactions. You can enter a specific reaction that a patient might have as the result of an allergy. From the Master Files - System list, select Allergy Reactions. The Allergy Reactions List window opens. Reactions marked as Common are listed at the top. SNOMED-codified reactions list in bold, their SNOMED code appears, and they cannot be modified. Note: When users are selecting reactions in NextGen® Enterprise EHR, they do no see an indication whether a reaction is SNOMED-codified. To add a reaction, scroll to the bottom of the list, and in the last blank row, enter a Description for the allergy reaction. To modify a reaction, edit the Description for the allergy reaction. You cannot modify the descriptions for SNOMED-codified reactions. If you expect to frequently use a reaction, select Common. Medication Allergies Module

The Medication Allergies module helps you to identify the potential for adverse drug reactions. Use this module to enter and retrieve any currently known adverse reaction to substances that may put the patient at risk if the patient exposed to similar substances in the future. Some food allergies like red dye or shellfish can be documented in this module, but a pollen allergy such as ragweed is a medical condition and would be better documented in the Problems module. View Patient's Medication Allergies

Before you begin You must ensure that you have the View access right enabled in MODULES > Medical Records > Medications Allergies in System Administrator. For more information on user access rights, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download the latest System Administrator Guide forNextGen®Enterprise. You can view a quick list of the patient's active medication allergies to identify potential adverse drug reactions. You can also open the Medication Allergies module to add or update the patient's allergies. A total count of the patient's active allergies appears on the Allergies button on the Quick Buttons panel. Note: The icon indicates that the patient account does not have any active allergies records and the No Known Allergies check box in Medication Allergies is not selected.
