Practices Preferences for NextGen® Enterprise EHR

The table describes the preferences available for setting up NextGen® Enterprise EHR in your practice.

Use PM as EHR's scheduling sourceSelect this option to use NextGen® Enterprise PM as the default scheduling source in the Workflow module in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. You cannot create appointments or modify appointment information (except room and status) in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. The Appointments section of the Workflow module displays all available resources and appointments in NextGen® Enterprise PM.
Override EHR appointment "reason" and "subject" fields with "details" and "event" from PM appointment Select this option to display data from NextGen® Enterprise PM in the Reason and Subject columns in the Workflow module in NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
Save zoom level for imagesSelect this option to save time while viewing the NextGen® Enterprise EHR images by retaining the latest zoom setting.
Allow twelve diagnosesSelect this option to allow users to increase the number of diagnosis codes associated with a procedure from four to 12. The first four diagnosis codes are associated with the CPT4® code. Codes five to eight are applied at the encounter level in NextGen® Enterprise PM and are not attached to a charge. Diagnosis codes from nine to 12 are for 5010 only.

The 12 diagnoses codes appear in the Charge Posting window in NextGen® Enterprise PM. All 12 codes can be sent on an 837 electronic claim.

Allow patient procedure activity against a locked encounter from the PM or external source

Select this option to allow the charge activity in NextGen® Enterprise PM or an external application to update the Procedures module of locked encounters in NextGen® Enterprise EHR.

For example, this setting applies if a charge is added or modified in NextGen® Enterprise PM for an encounter that is locked in NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
Set encounter date to billable date for new encountersSelect this option to set the billable date as the encounter date in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. If you do not select this option, the encounter date is the date and time when the encounter is created.

This setting applies only to encounters created in the Add Encounter window in NextGen® Enterprise PM and NextGen® Document Management.

Warn on multi editSelect this option to display a message to the user when opening a patient record that is already being accessed by another user. The Patient Chart Access window displays the username, workstation, date and time of access, and user phone number.
Skip sign in to the Provider Approval QueueSelect this option to allow users to open the Provider Approval Queue (PAQ) directly without logging on when they select the PAQ button on the toolbar.
Disable document editing in the Provider Approval QueueSelect this option to prevent users from editing documents that are pending in the PAQ.
Enable Spell CheckThis option is selected by default but can be turned off with practice-level or user-level settings. For more information, go to the NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download Using Spelling Checker in NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
Allow CDA Practice FiltersSelect this option to allow users to select filters at the practice level.
Use custom view as default CDA viewSelect this option to allow users to set the CDA view in NextGen® Enterprise EHR as the default custom view.
Allow DSM/MSU Practice FiltersSelect this option to allow users to define practice filters for a specific practice in the Data Share module and the Medical Summary Utility.

User must also have permission in System Administrator, Rights > Operations > Medical Summary > Allow Updating Practice Filters.

Enable user feedback surveySelect this option to allow users to provide feedback for NextGen® Enterprise EHR.

A feedback window appears when users close a patient chart.

Enable CPOE Order Search Bar Select this option to allow users to show or hide the CPOE Order Search bar in NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
NextGen Virtual Visit IndicatorSelect this option to make the Schedule On Demand NextGen Virtual Visit option and the Virtual Visit link available on the Encounter History tab in NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
Enable Present on Admission in Procedure ModuleSelect this option to make the Present on Admission (POA) button available the Procedures module. You can use the Add or Update buttons to update the POA information in the POA window in the Procedures module.
Auto Logout IntervalSet the NextGen® Enterprise EHR automatic logoff interval for all users in the practice. Users are automatically logged off NextGen® Enterprise EHR if they have not used the system for a specified amount of time.

If available, the user-level setting overrides the practice-level setting for the logoff interval.

NextGen Web Service Export PathEnter a default path for the location to export Continuity of Care Documents (CCDs).
Population HealthEnter the Tenant name and Certificate Path for NextGen® Population Health Solutions Single Sign-On.

The values set here override the values set in Universal Preferences and Enterprise Preferences.

Storage LocationsSelect the storage locations for documents, images, notes, patient emails, patient reports, and patient education.
Appearance and Display OptionsSelect the patient attributes to appear on the NextGen® Enterprise EHR title bar.
