Create an Audio File

NextGen® Enterprise EHR enables you to record and play back audio files in data entry fields to simplify storing information relevant to patients' records. To record and listen to voice files in templates, your workstation must be equipped with a sound card, a microphone, and speakers. Note: You cannot open or go to another template or perform other functions while you are playing or recording audio. Select the Microphone button within the audio field. The NextGen Audio Recorder window opens. To begin recording your audio file, select Record. To finish the recording, select Stop. Enter the name for the file in the Desc box. To save your audio file, select Save. To listen to the recorded file, select Play. To change the recording, select to switch from Insert to Overwrite mode. select OK. If you did not save your file, an Audio window opens, prompting you to save your work. Do one of the following: To save changes, select Yes. Change Audio Recorder Settings

NextGen® Enterprise is set up to enable recording of a 30-second long audio file by default. To set up a different default time for audio files or to make any other changes, contact your system administrator. You can define audio characteristics to be used in recording audio files. On the NextGen Audio Recorder window, select Settings. The Audio Settings window opens. Select the appropriate setting from the Attributes list. If you do not want to save the new settings, select Cancel. To save the new settings, select OK. Parent topic: Template Audio Files

Edit Audio Note Fields with MS Word

You can edit Audio Note fields using Microsoft® Word only if you have the application installed on your workstation. Select a patient, and then open a template with an Audio Note. Right-click the Audio Note field, and then select Edit Note. NextGen® Enterprise EHR embeds the Microsoft® Word features. Make any necessary text changes using the Microsoft® Word functionality. For more information on Microsoft® Word, see the appropriate documentation provided by Microsoft®. Right-click the Audio Note field, and then select Close Note. Foot Pedal Devices

The NextGen® Enterprise EHR Audio Recorder supports integration with foot pedal devices that enable mapping to outside sources. Listen to an Audio File

Before you begin Your workstation must be equipped with speakers to be able to listen to audio files. You can listen to previously recorded audio files. Select the Speaker button within the audio field. To begin playing the audio file, select Play. To stop the playback of the selected audio file, select Stop. You can record and listen to audio files in templates and insert transcribed text from an audio file into a template. If you have Microsoft® Word installed, you can use it to edit Audio Note fields.
