LOINC

The LOINC master file enables the Orders Module to support the Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes (LOINC) universal coding for test results. This allows providers to view results coming back from different performing entities on the same line in the order flow sheet. You can only modify the clinical name information for the LOINC codes; you cannot create or hide the codes. Update Clinical Name for Orders LOINC Code Master File

NextGen® Enterprise EHR supports LOINC Codes. This set of codes comes loaded in your database when you install NextGen® Enterprise EHR. You cannot add a new LOINC Code. You cannot change the Component name. You cannot hide (delete) a LOINC code. You can update the Clinical Name associated with the LOINC Code. Select File Maintenance > Master Files > System > LOINC. Enter part of the Component Name. Select to highlight the desired component. Select in the Clinical Name field. Enter the updated Clinical Name. Select Save to update the Clinical Name for this LOINC code. Note: When you update the Clinical Name, be sure to run the appropriate SQL script in order to update the existing results. The Orders module supports the Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes universal coding for test results (known as LOINC®) . This feature allows you to see test results for the same type of test on the same line even if the tests were performed at two different labs. By way of example, if one lab says "White Blood Count" in the results message and one returns "WBC" in the results message, the LOINC system has a standard ID for test result components that brings them together on the same line in the Results flow sheet. Important: When viewing results in the Orders module on the results flowsheet, they are grouped per a user defined preference: Lab Short description,Lab Long description or NextGen description. If results are grouped by NextGen description, the result names can be either the clinical name, the consumer name or the long common name. Display Similar Tests Together on the Results Flow Sheet

Run the Orders Management Console and load the LOINC codes. For details on loading the LOINC codes, For details on loading the LOINC codes, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download the latest Orders Module Setup Guide for NextGen Enterprise EHR. To display the description of the test differently from the LOINC description , complete the following steps: From File Maintenance select System > LOINC, and select Component to focus on it. In the LOINC Code List window, enter the name of a Component in the Loinc Code List Search field. Select the desired item in the list and add the Clinical Name to the LOINC Code record for the test in the LOINC Code window. Continue with "Define LOINC Codes for Order Components for Each Vendor".
