Preference	Description
Custom Patient Education Path	Defines the path where uploaded custom patient education documents are created.
Local Patient Education Files	Defines the shared path you created or the NextGen root path where the Patient Education Installer wizard installs the files.
Patient Education DSN	The DSN of the external database where patient education documents are saved to an encounter are stored (if applicable).
Patient Document Path	Defines the path where Healthwise Patient Education documents are saved. Note: You must set a path for patient education documents to enable users to save patient education documents to a patient's chart. Failure to set this path results in an error message.
Print Patient Name	Set this preference to True to have the patient's name appear on patient education information when it is printed. You can also set this preference at the user level.
Remote Patient Education Files	Sets the path for the storage of Patient Education files on a remote host via FTP. Enter the same path used for the Local Patient Education Files parameter.
Search Term Mapping File	NextGen Healthcare strongly recommends you do not modify this path. Search Term Mapping allows you to search a patient’s needs by gender, age and language. The default search term mapping file is Master_codeword_list.xml.
Search Term URL	Connects patient education content to the Standard Version of Healthwise Knowledgebase at http://www.healthwise.net/nextgen/find/search.aspx?searchterm=. Connects patient education content to the Catholic Version of Healthwise Knowledgebase at http://www.healthwise.net/nextgencat/find/search.aspx?searchterm=. Note: NextGen Healthcare strongly recommends you do not modify this link.
Use Legacy Education	Set this value to False to use the Healthwise Patient Education module. Note: If you select True, NextGen® Enterprise EHR will attempt to use McKesson Patient Education instead.

Documents Universal Preferences

These universal preferences control the handling of documents, including archiving, caching, and import and export paths. The following lists the Documents Universal Preferences. Preference Description Archive Doc Copy Determines whether documents will be archived. To archive documents, set the preference to True. Cache File Level Note: This preference is only set by NextGen support staff. Sets how document files are handled when they are copied to the cache path during document generation and loading. Cache File Levels: 0 – Off. This level is the default. 1 – Caches all document files during generation and loading. 2 – Same as 1 but does not report errors if the cache file cannot be deleted. Convert Notes to Plain Text Setting this option to True enables users to convert Note field values to plain text in a generated document. Workflow Universal Preferences

The following lists all the Workflow Universal Preferences. Preference Description Email DSN Sets up the Data Source Name used for storage if Replication is selected. Use FTP Determines if FTP is used to store image files. If your practice uses FTP to store information, set theUse FTPvalue toTrue, and then set the following usage specifications: FTP Server– Use if data is stored on an FTP server instead of a regular server. Set Up Universal Preferences

How to use System Administrator to configure preferences that are not specific to a particular practice. To access and set up Universal Preferences: Select View > Universal Preferences. The Preferences window appears. Select the preferences folder you want to configure The window displays the available preferences. In the Preference list, double-click the preference you want to set up. A window displays for the selected preference. Enter the desired value for the preference, and then select OK. There are three types of preferences: Preference Type Description Boolean Select True to enable the preference or select False to disable it. Path Enter the path that applies to the preference. You can enter the path or select the Ellipsis button to navigate for the path. Free Text Enter the alphanumeric value to use for the preference. Note: Some Universal Preferences may include FTP (File Transfer Protocol) settings. Set up FTP settings only if your practice is using FTP to store information.

Launch Patient Education Topics from a Template

Before you begin You must have your own provider license to use the Healthwise Patient Education Module. To obtain a license, contact your NextGen Sales Representative or NextGen Client Support. For more information on using the Patient Education module, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the latest Healthwise Patient Education Integration Guide for NextGen® Enterprise EHR. You can display a preselected or context-sensitive patient education topic depending on the Patient Education trigger setup. Context sensitivity is based on the CPT or ICD-9 code, terms, or title and language selected during the encounter. To display a patient education topic related to a particular CPT or ICD-9 code, a procedure or diagnosis must be saved to the encounter. After you display a patient education topic, you can save it to the encounter. The topic remains viewable when the encounter is locked. Patient Education Browser

With Healthwise Patient Education installed in NextGen® Enterprise EHR, you can perform the following: Access Patient Education Browser to search for internal and external patient education material. Perform context-sensitive searches of Healthwise Patient Education and practice defined patient education material in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Access Healthwise Knowledgebase through the internal browser. Save patient education material to a patient's chart or a patient's NextGen® PxP Portal account. Delete the saved patient education documents on an unlocked encounter in the Encounter History.
