Using Single/Multiple/Third-Party Applications Workflows
Changes that Occur During a CCOW Session
Users who only operate a single NextGen Healthcare application
- Those who only open one part of NextGen Healthcare (such as NextGen® Enterprise EHR, NextGen® Enterprise PM, or NextGen® Document Management) will notice few changes. The most visible changes are:
- NextGen® Enterprise PM users will no longer be able to right-click on a NextGen® Document Management image in the Clinical History/Notes tab and select Open Image In Doc Mgmt as the choice will be unavailable.
- NextGen® Enterprise EHR users can no longer open a NextGen® Document Management image in the Category tab and select Open in NextGen Document Management. This option is unavailable during a CCOW session.
- Users who operate in multiple NextGen® Enterprise applications at the same time, in addition to the changes mentioned above, you will see message pop-ups when changing patients under certain conditions. For example:
- If a user is working in NextGen® Enterprise EHR or NextGen® Document Management but NextGen® Enterprise PM is open in the background, a message displays if the patient has an alert on the chart (such as bad debt, balance due, etc.) or if the Add Appointment dialog is open.
- If a user is working in NextGen® Enterprise PM or NextGen® Document Management but NextGen® Enterprise EHR is open in the background, a message displays if there is unsaved data in a template or module.
- If a message appears when attempting to change patients, you have several choices:
- OK - Select this button when you know what is open or unsaved in the other application, but you want the application to change patients anyway.
- Cancel - Select this when you are not sure what is open or unsaved in the other application. When you select Cancel, the patient is not changed and you can then toggle to the other application to resolve the open or unsaved window or template.
- Break Link - Select this when you do not need patients to be synchronized between applications, or if the messages are creating workflow issues. When Break Link is selected, you may have different patients open in different parts of the application. If the CCOW link is broken, you must take the appropriate steps to confirm the patient before documenting in the chart.
Note: You can reestablish the link by right-clicking on the CCOW icon and selecting the Rejoin Link option.
- Users who operate in both NextGen® Enterprise and a Third-Party application - Those users managing patients with both programs will benefit most from CCOW. This allows users to toggle quickly between hospital and office charts without looking up the patient in each system. Users will see the same messages in NextGen® Enterprise previously mentioned; they will also see similar messages in the third-party application. Recommendation: Use the Windows task bar to toggle between applications instead of using the application buttons within NextGen HealthCare.
