Preference	Description
Inventory Image Path	Sets the path or location where the frames images are saved. If you select the Import Frames Images check box in the Frames Data Loader Utility, but the Inventory Image Path has not been set in System Administrator, a message appears stating that the image path has not been set and that you must configure the path.
Use Inventory Images	Sets the True option to view frames images in NextGen® Optical Management. If you set the option to False, you can import images to the Frames Data Loader Utility, however, you cannot view the images in NextGen® Optical Management.

Reports Universal Preferences

The following table describes the Reports Universal Preferences. You can also set these preferences at the user level. Images Universal Preferences

The following lists the Images Universal Preferences. Preference Description Use FTP Determines if FTP is used to store image files. If your practice uses FTP to store information, set theUse FTPvalue toTrue, and then set the following usage specifications: FTP Server– Use if data is stored on an FTP server instead of a regular server. FTP User Id– Enter the user ID used to access the FTP server. FTP Password– Enter the password used to access the FTP server. Import Universal Preferences from NextGen.ini File

If you are updating from NextGen® Enterprise PM version 3.9.x or lower and want to keep the settings, you must import Universal Preferences from the Nextgen.ini file directly into your database. Those previous versions of NextGen® Enterprise PM use the Nextgen.ini file while NextGen® Software, version 5.x uses the NGConfig.ini file. When you import Universal Preferences, the settings from the Nextgen.ini file are copied into the NGConfig.ini file. Caution: It is strongly recommended that you import Universal Preferences only during the initial setup of the NextGen® Enterprise Software, version 5.x. If you import Universal Preferences at any other time, you will override the preferences for all existing users. Documents Universal Preferences

These universal preferences control the handling of documents, including archiving, caching, and import and export paths. The following lists the Documents Universal Preferences. Preference Description Archive Doc Copy Determines whether documents will be archived. To archive documents, set the preference to True. Cache File Level Note: This preference is only set by NextGen support staff. Sets how document files are handled when they are copied to the cache path during document generation and loading. Cache File Levels: 0 – Off. This level is the default. 1 – Caches all document files during generation and loading. 2 – Same as 1 but does not report errors if the cache file cannot be deleted. Convert Notes to Plain Text Setting this option to True enables users to convert Note field values to plain text in a generated document. Set Up Universal Preferences

How to use System Administrator to configure preferences that are not specific to a particular practice. To access and set up Universal Preferences: Select View > Universal Preferences. The Preferences window appears. Select the preferences folder you want to configure The window displays the available preferences. In the Preference list, double-click the preference you want to set up. A window displays for the selected preference. Enter the desired value for the preference, and then select OK. There are three types of preferences: Preference Type Description Boolean Select True to enable the preference or select False to disable it. Path Enter the path that applies to the preference. You can enter the path or select the Ellipsis button to navigate for the path. Free Text Enter the alphanumeric value to use for the preference. Note: Some Universal Preferences may include FTP (File Transfer Protocol) settings. Set up FTP settings only if your practice is using FTP to store information.
